Name
Shimoto is one of three oni in Dragon Ball Z Episode 195 to share names with Dragon Ball Z series directors. The others are Yama and Suenaga. Shimoto is likely named for Mitsuo Hashimoto, director of many episodes including the episode that he appeared in. Because Shimoto's nametag is not fully visible, his intended name in the series may have been longer.
Production
Due to the production schedule inherent in producing a weekly anime series based on a weekly comic, the writers of Dragon Ball Z interjected anime-only material as a means of extending the runtime and to flesh out the Dragon Ball universe.
