"Hyper Anime Dragon Ball" is a short feature combining traditional animation with computer-generated graphics originally screened at the "World of Akira Toriyama" exhibition in December 1993. The feature was later collected as a bonus video in the first Dragon Ball Z "Dragon Box" DVD release in March 2003.
Production
The Silicon Graphics Indigo line of workstation computers with the Elan graphics option, originally shipped in April 1992[1], was used to create Hyper Anime Dragon Ball.[2]
The song used in Hyper Anime Dragon Ball is unknown[3], while voice work is reused from the franchise's video games produced by Bandai. The three minutes worth of final animation took about three months of production time.[2]
Summary

A 3D-render of a scouter explodes into a quasi-title screen with the "Dragon Ball" name atop a blazing sun. A fiery Shenlong rises from the sun and pauses into a silver circle, which itself then transitions into the 武 (bu) signage at a Tenka'ichi Budōkai stage. As the camera flies backward, the stage erupts into mountainous pillars with Son Gohan standing atop them staring back at the faces of Freeza and Cell embedded in the mountainsides. Son Goku flies next to Gohan as the fire transitions into a new scene of five nebulous flame creatures dancing behind Cell, who fires a Kienzan. Freeza points toward the screen. In front of a waterfall-esque background, Son Goku dances quasi-mirrored against a humanoid shadow, which transitions to Goku sparring with Gohan atop God's Palace. The screen flashes and transitions to Gohan fighting against Cell in the same location with a nighttime/space background swapped in. The camera swoops up and around, transitioning back to the Tenka'ichi Budōkai stage. Scenes from the television series and theatrical films of Goku rushing in to fight are shown, with Goku swapping in for Freeza against Cell and then to Gohan against Cell. Various shots of hands grasping each other mid-battle transition to Cell exploding with outstretched arms. The various Cell Jrs. attack characters over top existing and new background footage, which once again morphs into a mountainous region. Freeza attacks, and Gohan is caught in another explosion. Goku and Gohan fly toward the screen, followed by a showcase of Freeza and Cell's respective transformations. Scenes of Goku fighting Freeza and Cell transition to composited shots of Gohan being blasted backward through a mountain, with follow-up attacks from both villains. Footage of Gohan's final attack from the ninth Dragon Ball Z film with new effects and background transition to show Cell's disintegration. Renders of the Dragon Balls collect together in space once more and reform a fiery Shenlong.

Legacy
Alongside actual gampelay, footage from Hyper Anime Dragon Ball was reused in a television commercial for Dragon Ball Z: Super Butōden 2, released that same month (December 1993) in Japan. The commercial explicitly details the footage as sourced from the "World of Akira Toriyama" exhibit.
