Biography
Cell Games
To amuse himself, Cell hosts the Cell Games and fights several challengers one after another. When one of these challengers, Son Gohan, explains he has hidden powers that are brought forth by anger, Cell is intrigued and wants to make Gohan angry on purpose.[1] To this end, he spawns seven Cell Juniors, one for each of Gohan's friends who are spectating the battle: Kuririn, Yamcha, Tenshinhan, Trunks, Vegeta, Piccolo, and Gohan's father Son Goku.[2] Only Trunks and Vegeta manage to put up a fight; the others get pummeled and injured as Gohan watches. Sensing that Gohan is close to snapping, Cell tells the Cell Juniors to go ahead and kill their opponents.
Suddenly, Artificial Human No. 16's severed head lands between Gohan and Cell. Still functioning, No. 16 tries to tell Gohan that it is okay to let loose and fight for what is right. Cell says that is good advice, but he did not ask for help — and he crushes No. 16's head.[3]
This sends Gohan over the edge, and he explodes with rage, transforming into a state beyond Super Saiyan. He flies over to the Cell Junior fighting Kuririn, and punches its head clean off. The other Cell Juniors come at him, but he tears each of them apart with one hit. The last Cell Junior tries to fly away, but Gohan effortlessly catches up to it and destroys it, too.[4]
