Dragon Ball Z Side-Story: Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans: Part Two, later called Space Story[note 2], is the second of two episodes of the Dragon Ball Z OVA, Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans. This episode was released on 25 August 1993, the same day as Dragon Ball Z Episode 198. It was written by Takao Koyama and directed by Shigeyasu Yamauchi.
This episode is a part of a multimedia collection that includes a NES game, the two-episode OVA based on the NES game (and intended, in part, as a "strategy guide"), and a Playdia game. For more information, see Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans. It was subsequently re-edited and re-animated into the feature Plan to Eradicate the Super Saiyans.

Prologue
After discovering that they would need to travel to Planet Ankoku to defeat Doctor Raichi, Goku and his friends traveled to Bunbuku Island to retrieve a jewel known as Gekinmun which could be used to power a spaceship. With the jewel in hand and a newly built ship, Goku and his companions set off into space.[note 3]
Episode
Standing around a crowded spaceship, Gohan announces that they have arrived at Planet Ankoku. As they approach, the ship is assaulted by lightning and nearly destroyed before they flee. In a series of brief text recaps, Goku and the gang acquire a Ring of Break-Evil and a Pearl of Break-Evil, before breaching the space storm with the help of Kaiō. Upon arriving at the planet, Goku learns that Raichi is hiding out in the control room of his evil castle.
At the castle, Goku and the others search separately for Raichi. Goku is immediately attacked by the robotic God Guardian. It puts up a good fight, but Goku is able to kill it by leaping through and flying through its torso. Vegeta, watching the battle nearby, only smirks and tells Goku that he will let him take the easier enemies. Back on Earth, the Destron Gas generator in West City continues to poison the world and Bulma continues to search for a cure.
Goku smashes through a window and emerges into Raichi's lair. Moments later, Gohan, Vegeta, Trunks, and Piccolo all emerge from separate windows into the same room. Goku calls out Doctor Raichi and he appears, taunting them that they fell into his trap since all of the remaining Saiyans are standing in his lair.[note 4] Raichi promises an extra special revenge against Vegeta for the sins of his father. Vegeta counters that the Tsufruians had nearly enslaved his people, but Raichi dismisses that as only the guilty excuses of a thief. He explains that as the war waged on between the Tsufruians and the Saiyans, he created the Hacchi Hyack, a machine to magnify the energy of hatred and spite. The rage could form itself into "ghost warriors" that would be able to defeat the Saiyans. Unfortunately, the machine took time to gather the rage energy and he was killed while trying to escape the planet. The spacecraft still launched, carrying the machine and his rage-filled spirit into the cosmos, eventually landing on Planet Ankoku. Meanwhile, Hacchi Hyack somehow evolved into a living creature and built a castle around itself. He revealed that Freeza and other others on earth were such "ghost warriors", sent to attack the surviving Saiyans. Goku, in a moment of cleverness, realizes that Doctor Raichi is now a ghost warrior himself. He corrects Goku: he is not just a ghost warrior, but the "ultimate" ghost warrior!
The Saiyans (and Piccolo) attack, but Raichi blocks them using a barrier. As all of the warriors try to break through, Goku admonishes Raichi that his hatred is unreasonable; even if he is angry at the Saiyans, he has no reason to kill the others on Earth. Raichi counters that he will do whatever it takes to kill the Saiyans, even if others are harmed in the process. Goku and the others decide to stop fooling around and become Super Saiyans. While Piccolo, Gohan, Trunks, and Vegeta pound on the barrier, Goku launches a kamehameha which finally shatters it! Vegeta, angry that Goku nearly took the kill, launches a Final Flash that vaporizes the undefended scientist. Gohan pities him that such a great scientific mind could be so blinded by hatred. Back on Earth, the Destron Gas disappears and the Earth is safe! Kaiō telepathically gives Goku the good news and they begin to celebrate.
Secure in their victory, the credits roll.
Suddenly, Raichi's laughter rings out! He reforms and reminds the team that as long as there is Hacchi Hyack and and hatred, he can never truly be defeated. Vegeta kills him again by trapping a ki blast inside his partly-reformed barrier. A tiny ball of hatred energy survives the blow and screams (in a tiny voice) at the Saiyans until Vegeta crushes it beneath his boot.
An unknown voice calls out, deep and mysterious: "Raichi... Saiyans... Revenge..." The balls of Tsufruian hatred begins to glow as the planet is surrounded by a strange energy. Planets and stars swirl around the Planet Ankoku. Even Kaiō feels the tremendous ki. He explains that Hacchi Hyack has now absorbed the hatred energy from Doctor Raichi and it has exceeded its capacity. It could destroy the universe! Goku says that they have to destroy it, but before they can assail the machine its energy begins to coalesce into a new form: Hacchi Hyack has a new body! Hacchi Hyack attacks and easily takes out Vegeta and the others. Still focusing on the Saiyan Prince, he engulfs Vegeta in a massive energy blast, nearly knocking him out. Trunks tries to help up his father, while Goku and Gohan enter the fray. Hacchi Hyack defeats them easily and nearly nails Gohan with a twin ki attack, before Piccolo steps in to block. Piccolo is overwhelmed by another gigantic ki blast and knocked out, dropping a bag of sensu that he had hidden. Trunks and Gohan try battling next, but are sent flying unconscious into the wall. Only Son Goku remains standing as he marvels that Hacchi Hyack may be even stronger than Broly! Hacchi Hyack powers up his attack as Goku counts under his breath. Hacchi Hyack blasts and Goku dodges just as he reaches fifteen. Vegeta rejoins the fray, but little no better than before although he is able to keep Hacchi Hyack opccupied.
Piccolo wakes and sees the bag of senzu. He feeds one to Gohan before collapsing. He tells Gohan that there are three senzu left and to help the others. Piccolo insists that he not be given one and that he will be fine, even as he lapses into unconsciousness. Vegeta's luck finally runs out as Hacchi Hyack succeeds in grabbing him and begins to break his arms and legs. Gohan heals Goku, Trunks, and Vegeta and the battle resumes. The four Saiyans prepare their attacks while Hacchi Hyack powers up. Goku resumes counting, calling out to his friends to fire their attacks just after he reaches fourteen. He fires a Super Kamehameha while the others unleash their strongest attacks. The combination of blasts right as Hacchi Hyack finished charging is enough to finally put an end to the rage spirit. As the castle crumbles around him, Goku teleports himself and the others back to Earth.
Goku lands at Capsule Corp and the Earth is saved! Green returns to the forests and the world recovers from the Destron Gas.
At Goku's house near Mount Paozu, Chi-Chi is still calling him and Gohan to dinner...

Setting
This set of episodes does not appear to fit into the established continuity of the series due to appearances by Tullece, Coola, and Slug. Each of their previous appearances were in movies whose timelines are uncertain or contradictory. As such, the below dates are approximate only.
- Age 767 - An indeterminate period prior to the Cell Games, but after the encounter with Broly.

- ↑ The designations "Earth Story" and "Space Story" for the two episodes of Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans originated as the titles of the two Playdia games based on the video footage. Fans subsequently applied those names to the original episodes as well.
- ↑ In addition to a standard episode recap, the pre-title "recap" also narrated events which were not depicted in the previous episode. It is unclear if these sequences were simply additional "walkthrough" for the NES game or if they were cut for time. While the Playdia version of these events included additional pre-launch scenes, it also did not include a search for these jewels.
- ↑ Doctor Raichi apparently does not know or care about the young baby Trunks still back in West City, although he sent monsters to attack the infant in the previous episode.

Production
In contrast to the first episode, this part of the story appears disjointed with several events narrated or recapped in text. Animation from the first episode is reused, such as Bulma working on her computer in West City. During battle scenes, some attacks were not fully animated and lingered as still images.
Tidbits
- This OVA elaborates on the battle between the Saiyans and the Tsufruians that was first described by Kaiō in Dragon Ball Z Episode 20. While there are discrepancies between this retelling and the previous one, some of these may be explained as Kaiō was lying to Goku in part during that retelling. (Kaiō blamed the destruction of Planet Vegeta on the God of Planet Vegeta rather than Freeza, for example.) Aspects of this backstory will be further elaborated on (in occasionally contradictory ways) in Dragon Ball GT and Episode of Bardock.
- Nappa appears, fighting beside King Vegeta, in a brief flashback to the battle over Planet Plant.
- Although it takes place prior to the Cell Games, in release order this is the final episode or movie to include Future Trunks as a main character until Dragon Ball Super.
- The full events of this pair of episodes appears to take place over a couple of hours at most, despite traveling to several planets and all the way to the edge of the galaxy. This is perhaps explained by the use of "Gekinmun" to power the spacecraft.
