Cover Illustration
This issue's Akira Toriyama cover illustration was drawn for a collectible phone card (テレホンカード) included with the 1991 #03/#04 issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump in Japan. This issue went on sale on 19 December 1990 and featured the original printing of Dragon Ball Chapter 305. The illustration gets a quarter-page reprint in Dragon Ball Daizenshuu 1 ("The Complete Illustrations")[1] and a half-page reprint in the Dragon Ball Chōgashū ("A Visual History").[2]
Insert Poster

This issue contains an insert poster of Akira Toriyama's full-color illustration for the title page of Dragon Ball Chapter 229, published in the 1989 #29 issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump in Japan. This issue went on sale on 20 June 1989. The illustration gets two-page reprints in Dragon Ball Daizenshuu 1 ("The Complete Illustrations"),[3] the Dragon Ball Chōgashū ("A Visual History"),[4] and Akira Toriyama - The World.[5] The latter notes that, judging by the way Gohan is dressed, Goku is probably taking him to kindergarten; it also comments on the scene, saying that one can almost imagine the sound of leaves rustling as they pass. Separately, in Akira Toriyama: The World SPECIAL, Toriyama mentions that he loves drawing reptiles, even if some girls don’t like them.[6]
