Dragon Ball Z Part 1 No. 2 is the second issue of Viz's "Dragon Ball Z" monthly comics, the original English-language printing of the Dragon Ball manga. It was released in April 1998 alongside the second issue of the "Dragon Ball"-branded chapters.

The title page of chapter 197 is omitted. The title page of chapter 198 is repurposed as a title page for chapter 197 (Dragon Ball Z Chapter 3), printed in its original black-and-white. The repurposing continues in both Viz editions of Dragon Ball Z Volume 1, but it is restored in the Viz omnibus editions: both chapters' title pages are included in the title page galleries as Dragon Ball Z chapters 3 and 4 in Dragon Ball Z VIZBIG Volume 1 and as Dragon Ball chapters 197 and 198 in Dragon Ball 3-in-1 Volume 6.
Cover Illustration
This issue's Akira Toriyama cover illustration was drawn for a collage on the cover of the 1989 #31 issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump in Japan.[1] This issue went on sale on 04 July 1989 and featured the original printing of Dragon Ball Chapter 231. The illustration itself gets a quarter-page reprint in Dragon Ball Daizenshuu 1 ("The Complete Illustrations")[2] and a half-page reprint in the Dragon Ball Chōgashū ("A Visual History").[3]
Advertisements
This issue contains a standard solicitation for reader letters on the inside of the front cover. No letters were printed in this issue.
Page 30 is an advertisement for the "Dragon Ball" monthly comics which were published in tandem with the "Dragon Ball Z" issues. Page 31 is an advertisement for the tenth Maison Ikkoku graphic novel, "Dogged Pursuit", and the Striker: The Armored Warrior graphic novel. Page 32 is an advertisement for biweekly issues of the comic Shi.
The back cover is a full-color advertisement for the Pioneer VHS releases of the "Vegeta Saga" of Dragon Ball Z, featuring the final two installments: "Showdown" (Vol. 8) and "Departure" (Vol. 9). This advertisement is reproduced on the page for the first "Dragon Ball" issue.
