Dragon Ball Part 1 No. 1 is the first issue of Viz's Dragon Ball monthly comics, the original English-language printing of the Dragon Ball manga. It was released on 06 March 1998 alongside the first issue of the "Dragon Ball Z"-branded chapters. Akira Toriyama's original color pages are printed in greyscale.

List of Chapters

Chapter 1 is called "Part 1" in this issue.

The first chapter of Dragon Ball is 30 pages in length (not counting the title page), more than twice the typical chapter length of 14 pages. Accordingly, the first issue of the Viz comics only contains one chapter. Subsequent issues all contain at least two chapters.

The chapter is called "Part 1" in this issue. Beginning with the second issue, the chapters are called "Tale 2", "Tale 3", etc. Chapter 1 was assimilated in Viz's first edition of the first collected volume; it is called "Tale 1" there and thereafter.

Cover Illustration

This issue's Akira Toriyama cover illustration was first printed as a fold-out poster in the 1986 #12 issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump in Japan. This issue went on sale on 18 February 1986 and featured the original printing of Dragon Ball Chapter 62. This illustration gets a full-page reprint in Dragon Ball Daizenshuu 1 ("The Complete Illustrations")[1] and a ¾-page reprint in the Dragon Ball Chōgashū ("A Visual History"),[2] the 30th Anniversary Super History Book,[3] and Akira Toriyama - The World.[4]
