Dragon Ball Part 1 No. 2 is the second issue of Viz's Dragon Ball Monthly Comics, the original English-language printing of the Dragon Ball manga. It was released in April 1998 alongside the second issue of the "Dragon Ball Z"-branded chapters. Akira Toriyama's original color pages are printed in greyscale.

The title page for chapter 2 is printed here in greyscale. The original limited-color title page is reprinted in Dragon Ball Kanzenban Volume 1,[1] Dragon Ball Daizenshuu 1 ("The Complete Illustrations"),[2] the Dragon Ball Chōgashū ("A Visual History"),[3] and Akira Toriyama - The World.[4] The full-color title page for chapter 3 is omitted here, but it is used for the cover of Part 2 No. 8 of the Viz comics.
Cover Illustration
This issue's Akira Toriyama cover illustration was drawn for the cover of the series' first collected volume, which went on sale on 10 September 1985. This illustration was omitted in Dragon Ball Daizenshuu 1 ("The Complete Illustrations"), but it was reprinted in the Dragon Ball Chōgashū ("A Visual History")[5] and Akira Toriyama - The World.[6] It was also used for the book cover of the 30th Anniversary Dragon Ball Super History Book.
Advertisements
This issue contains a standard solicitation for reader letters on the inside of the front cover. No letters were printed in this issue.
The final three regular pages are advertisements. Page 30 is an advertisement for the Dragon Ball Z monthly comics which were published in tandem with the Dragon Ball issues. Page 31 is an advertisement for the tenth Maison Ikkoku graphic novel, "Dogged Pursuit", and the Striker: The Armored Warrior graphic novel. Page 32 is an advertisement for Fist of the North Star action figures from Inteleg International; this advertisement is reproduced on the fourth issue's page.
The back cover is a full-color advertisement for the Pioneer VHS releases of the "Vegeta Saga" of Dragon Ball Z, featuring the final two installments: "Showdown" (Vol. 8) and "Departure" (Vol. 9). This advertisement is reproduced on the previous issue's page.
