Dragon Ball Z Part 1 No. 8 is the eighth issue of Viz's "Dragon Ball Z" monthly comics, the original English-language printing of the Dragon Ball manga. It was released in October 1998 alongside the eighth issue of the "Dragon Ball"-branded chapters.

The title page of chapter 209 is omitted. The title page of chapter 210, printed in its original greyscale, is repurposed as a title page for "Chapter 15".
Cover Illustration
This issue's Akira Toriyama cover illustration was drawn for a collage on the cover of the 1989 #03/#04 issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump in Japan. This issue went on sale on 19 December 1988 and featured the original printing of Dragon Ball Chapter 205. This cover is not fully reprinted in the 30th Anniversary Super History Book, but it does get a small circular crop and an acknowledgement.[1] The illustration itself gets a quarter-page reprint in Dragon Ball Daizenshuu 1 ("The Complete Illustrations")[2] and a smaller reprint in the Dragon Ball Chōgashū ("A Visual History").[3]

Page 32 is an advertisement for the October release of three Viz graphic novels: Galaxy Express 999, Black & White Vol. 1, and The Legend of Kamui Vol. 2.
The back cover is a full-color advertisement for the Pioneer VHS releases of the "Namek Saga" of Dragon Ball Z, featuring the latest two installments: "The Ginyu Force" (Vol. 16) and "Super Saiyan!?" (Vol. 17). This ad is reproduced on the page for "Dragon Ball" Part 1-8.

| "Please, Sir, May I Have Some More?" I've only been a Dragon Ball Z fan for about a year now and I think it's great. But where I live, the channel which showed DBZ only had about ten episodes. Do you think Ottawa will get any more shows? Anyway, my supreme favorite character is Vegeta. The comics are much better than the cartoon. | We don't know too much about television in Ottawa, so we can't really guess about the probability (possibility?) of more DBZ episodes coming to your neck of the woods. That doesn't mean you can't hope, though, right? In the meantime, we'll answer your second question ("Why brown, then black?") with a question of our own: Why did the Gamelons of the U.S.-broadcast Star Blazers start out pasty white, and then, a few episodes later, turn blue? | A Guy So Cool, They Named the Planet After Him I've really enjoyed what you've done with publishing DBZ "unflopped," so, since you've done a great job, enclosed is a wedding pic of my super sexy husband, Vegeta, and myself. There's only one little problem...NOT ENOUGH OF VEGETA! We for sure don't want to see "Mr. Goody-Goody," Goku, or "Mr. Attitude," Piccolo, or that bald-headed freak, Kuririn! VEGETA! VEGETA! VEGETA! | What's the Connection? I bought my first Dragon Ball Z comic a few weeks ago, and I thought that it was excellent! The artwork is great, it's full of action, and best of all it's not edited! I have a few questions: (1) Is Goku related to Vegeta? (2) Are there any Dragon Ball Z games for the PC? If there are, where can I get one? Keep up the great work! | Hoping to maintain as much excitement as possible about plot developments which have yet to unfold, we're going to waffle on the Vegeta question for now (although the unfolding is only a short way off!), referring you, should the desire prove irresistible, to the Net, where you should be able to find out more than you ever wanted to know about one of the world's most popular series. |

| Which is "better," the manga or the anime? Comparing the two is just like the old "apples or oranges" debate—each have their merits, their own fans. Although the anime is more accessible and immediately enjoyable, the manga is often {more} fulfilling...maybe because it requires a little more from the reader than from a viewer watching the anime. We love the animated Dragon Ball Z—on television or not—and although we, just like everyone else, sometimes wish that the anime didn't have to be edited at all, we also understand that compromises have to be made. If you don't like the U.S. version, hey, that's cool—not everyone does. Some like apples; some like oranges. But, please, no more letters about how the anime "sucks," huh? Compared to how it started out in Toriyama's mind, even the JAPANESE version of the anime must have seemed compromised to fans of the original manga, don't you think? These are the things is {sic} we try to remember, when we're feeling inclined to criticize. |

| We love the art you send in, but because of space restrictions, there's no way we can use it all! Therefore, to increase the chances of your work being seen, please keep the following tips in mind: • Pen works better than pencil. • No artwork larger than 8 1/2 by 11. Print your name (and age, if you wish) on the back of your art so we can give you proper credit. • Typed letters have a better chance of being printed than hand-written. We stay up all night reading manga and playing RPG's, and our eyes are tired. • We realize tracing artwork is fun, but it's not as much fun for the rest of us. Be original!
