The Roaming Lake is a legendary moving lake in the desert near Namu's village. It appears in a Toei Animation original plotline in Dragon Ball Episode 29 which was broadcast in Japan on Fuji TV on 10 September 1986.

Overview

After Namu returns from the 21st Tenka'ichi Budōkai with a capsule full of water for his village, it appears that all of their woes are over, but Namu worries about their future. He asks an elder of his village if he thinks the drying up of their river is natural, and the elder does not think so; there has been rain, but no water in the river; something is blocking it upstream. The elder asks Namu if he has heard the rumors of the magical lake that moves around the desert, and Namu has not. But the elder remembers hearing stories about it when he was a child; the lake once moved to the outskirts of their village.

幻の湖の伝説を聞いたことがあるか？砂漠に動く湖があるというんじゃ｡ この村の外れにも 遠い昔湖が動いてきて水不足の村を救ったという伝説を子供の頃に聞いたことがある｡

Goku just happens to be passing through Namu's desert local when Namu is abducted by a pteranodon. Goku rescues him and takes him upriver where they discover that the Giran clan has dammed up the river. With Giran's permission, Goku destroys the dam with a Kamehameha, causing the river to flow again. Then the river is buried in a dust storm. The villagers think they are done for, but then Goku spots something sparkling in the distance. He flies there on Kinto'un, and when the villagers catch up, they see it is the magical roaming lake.

Name

The lake is only called the "Roaming Lake" (さまよう湖 samayou mizūmi) in the episode title. Otherwise it is just referred to as a "magical lake" (幻の湖 maboroshi mizūmi), or "moving lake" (動く湖 ugoku mizūmi).
