Summary
Summary
Vegeta starts up a narration. "So it’s begun at last... The final battle, with the fate of the entire universe at stake...!!" Buu flies at Goku, but Goku fires a Kamehameha, obliterating Buu from the waist down. Buu quickly restores himself, but immediately afterwards, Goku gets behind him and knocks him down toward the ground. Buu blows himself into a parachute shape so that he lands safely, and Goku lands too. Goku rushes forward, as Buu drives his own leg into the ground. Buu’s leg comes back out of the ground just in front of Goku, kicking him in the face. Goku does multiple backflips to get away from the leg, as it keeps trying to kick him. Buu fires a huge blast at Goku, but Goku teleports away, and kicks Buu in the face. Buu then elbows Goku, and they begin exchanging a flurry of blows.
Looking into their crystal ball, the Kaiōshin confirm that the Earth is completely gone. Satan thinks that is funny, and the geezer is talking crazy. Dende politely tells him to hush, and begins explaining how important the Kaiōshin are, and that this is the holy land of the Kaiōshin Realm, not Earth. Satan thinks this is just all a cruel joke, and doubts Dende is even God. Satan then realizes that this must all be a dream, and that Majin Boo is not even real. And since this a dream, he must also be able fly, and so he jumps off a small cliff... Satan thinks this is a pretty painful dream. Vegeta is still angry that Kakarrot saved that guy instead of their comrades. Vegeta also notes that the Earth and everyone who died can never be restored, because the Dragon Balls are gone.

"Kakarrot... An amazing guy, you are... That Majin Buu, he was an opponent I couldn’t stand up to at all... The only one who can fight him is you... I have a hunch that you somehow know it... Why is it that I, who should be a genius, am unable to compete with you..." Buu kicks Goku. "I thought it was because you had things you wanted to protect..." Goku hits Buu with a light blast. "I thought your strong will to protect brought forth mysterious powers... I think that was certainly there, but now I have that same thing... I fought for the sake of my way of thinking, for my pleasure, for killing my enemies, and for my pride..." Buu bites Goku’s arm.
Elder Kaiōshin freaks out, as only Namekians are allowed to have Dragon Balls. Then Dende gets an idea. "I think if we go to my home world of Planet Namek, the new Eldest would surely have made another set of Dragon Balls!! It can all be restored!! The Earth and everyone that was killed by Boo!!!" Goku says Planet Namek is too far away, and he cannot feel any Namekian ki, so he cannot teleport, and they have no spaceship either. Kaiōshin insists that he can teleport to any of the planets in the lower world. They have seen it before, it's Kibito's signature technique.

"But, he’s different... He doesn’t fight to win. He fights so that he absolutely won’t lose, continually overcoming his limits...! That’s why he’s unconcerned with taking his opponent’s lives... He didn’t even kill me..." Goku locks Buu in a headlock and bites him on the head. "As though he completely knew that I would come to be a person with a bit of a heart for people as I am now... It pisses me off...!" Buu tries to zap Goku with his forelock, but Goku jumps over it. "To think, a gentle Saiyan who loves fighting...!!" Goku blasts Buu. "Give it your best, Kakarrot... You’re number one!!"
Everyone gets excited, but Elder Kaiōshin says he will not allow this. Goku offers to take a steamy perverted picture of a girl for him. She is not exactly young, but she is puri-puri. Elder Kaiōshin is not too keen, since she is probably dead, which Goku says is why they need the Dragon Balls to bring her back to life. Vegeta wants to know if the woman he means is Bulma. He yells at Goku for doing that with someone else's wife, instead of taking a picture of Chi-Chi's breasts. Goku says Chi-Chi is not puri-puri, and she would kill him. Kaiōshin suddenly points out that Boo is reforming in the empty space that was Earth.

Goku shields himself against a large Kamehameha from Buu, and Satan thinks this is a really intense dream. Buu thinks he’s won, when suddenly another Kamehameha shoots up from the smoke, and blows Buu to smithereens. When the smoke clears, it’s Goku, who says, "Dumbass!! This was a real Kamehameha!!" Goku is mad that Buu’s physical strength never drops no matter what you do to him, and he can always return to a new state. Vegeta goes over to Goku, and Goku hopes it’s not time to switch off. Vegeta says he never intended to fight anyway. Vegeta says Buu is certainly strong beyond imagination, but so is Kakarrot. He tells him to go all out and finish Buu. Goku had thought he could, but he hasn’t gotten the chance yet. He needs a minute to gather his ki. Goku wishes they hadn’t destroyed the Potara. Buu begins to reform again, mocking them, and so Vegeta says he’ll give him that one minute he needs.
Elder Kaiōshin tells him to give the Potara to them, but Goku says they do not need them. "These things don't suit us... It'll be tough, but... I want to fight with my own power alone. Sorry to do this at such a bad time... But, he is no longer fused with anyone else either..." Elder Kaiōshin is shocked, but Vegeta thinks that was well said, and crushes his own Potara, saying that is how Saiyans are. Goku says it will be okay, because Boo will not come here, and they can think up a plan in the meantime, though it may be unfortunate for all the aliens Boo will kill. However, Boo suddenly smirks and teleports to the Kaiōshin Realm.

Goku realizes Boo saw Kaiōshin's Shunkan-Idō, and mimicked it that quickly. Vegeta thinks they will just have to end it now. Goku asks Kaiōshin to please take the others to another planet. The Kaiōshin wish them luck, and Goku gives a thumbs up as they teleport away with Dende and the puppy, arriving on a planet with healthy grass and tall trees. They will still watch via the crystal ball, which Elder Kaiōshin sets on a nearby log. Goku and Vegeta decide it is time to begin, and start playing rock-paper-scissors to see who will fight first. Goku wins, and so Vegeta angrily drops out of Super Saiyan and walks off to watch. Goku says he is going to go full-throttle, for the entire universe, and Vegeta is glad, since he wants to see Super Saiyan 3 with his own eyes. Goku tells Vegeta he might not get a turn in that case, noting he could have beaten the fat Majin Boo earlier, but he wanted the youngsters to do the job.

Boo is not listening, and is, in fact, asleep. Goku then becomes Super Saiyan 3 and the rocks that fly up hit Boo, waking him up. Boo then howls and beats his chest like an ape. Goku thinks he is a weirdo. Kaiōshin realizes they left the human called Satan back in the Kaiōshin Realm, but Elder Kaiōshin does not care, leave him there. Satan is watching the battle from behind a small rock.

"A Match with the Whole Universe at Stake" is the five hundred and ninth chapter of the Dragon Ball manga series by Akira Toriyama. It was first published in Japan in the 1995 #14 issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump.
