"Marjo, the Girl in Love" is the second chapter (of six total) of the Go! Go! Ackman cel comic sequel manga series written by Takao Koyama, illustrated by Satoru Iriyoshi, and with editorial supervision by Akira Toriyama. It was exclusively published in Japan in the December 1994 issue of Shueisha's V-Jump magazine, released 21 October 1994.[1]

Splash text on the title page states 結婚なんて絶対しない 逃げ切ってみせるぞ~!! ("There's no way I'm getting married! I'm gonna get out of here!").

Summary

Ackman is huffing his way along the countryside, while Gordon asks him why he's running away; Ackman says she keeps coming at him with a face like this (demonstrating a kissy face). Marjo then suddenly jumps out from a bush behind them, making that exact face (plus heart eyes) at Ackman. Marjo grabs Ackman by the collar, telling him she'll give him something good. Turns out, if Ackman marries her, Marjo will give him all of the souls she's collected. Ackman is in awe of this, which Gordon figures must be about 5,000 in total. Gordon whispers to Ackman that this is his chance; if he can get his hands on these souls, he'll get accolades from the Great Demon King and his reputation will rise! Ackman stutters for a second while Marjo presses him... but on second thought, Ackman's outta here.

Ackman races away in his car, reflecting that Marjo's riches is no reason to have proposed. Marjo suddenly appears (upside down) on Ackman's windshield, causing him to crash into a tree. Marjo is flung to the side while Ackman tries to escape into a graveyard, upset over totaling his car. Marjo (somehow) pops out of a grave in the ground, scaring Ackman off all over again.

A baby begins screaming as someone tries to calm it down — it's the Angel, who has apparently taken on this job in order to afford hitmen to go after Ackman. The baby smells; it's pooped! Ackman keeps running by, wondering why Marjo wants to marry someone 255 years younger than she is; it's strength that matters to her, not age. It's here that the Angel finally notices Ackman. It's been 100 years since they last met, and he's not going to let Ackman through! Ackman reacts to the smell, the Angel yells for him to shut up, and Marjo comes in swooning again. Ackman sees his opportunity, and starts taunting the Angel over how much of a stupid coward he his, tempting him to throw a punch. The Angel throws a one-handed Ultra Magnum Engine Punch, causing Ackman to go flying into the distance. The Angel, completely taken aback, can't believe he actually won. Marjo switches sides, now totally into the Angel who just defeated Ackman. The Angel is the one now trying to escape Marjo, who doesn't care that he has a child (and is an angel on top of all that). Gordon says that the plan worked out well, but Ackman says he did actually get hurt a little bit.

Legacy

The Go! Go! Ackman cel comic sequel manga series continues onward from Toriyama's original 11-chapter manga series (published over the course of 1993-1994 in the same magazine), coinciding with and promoting the first Go! Go! Ackman video game for the Nintendo Super Famicom. It was followed by a second and third cel comic series, serving the same purpose in the same magazine.

In line with the style established with the original Dr. Slump manga series and subsequent V-Jump sequel series like The Brief Return of Dr. Slump — but, curiously, not the original Go! Go! Ackman itself — titles for the first two chapters are followed by の巻 (no maki), indicating that it is the "volume" (or here "chapter") in which those events take place. This appendix has been ignored in our chapter title translations, and was dropped altogether with the third chapter.
