"S-100" is the Kanzenshuu catalogue number for a musical track composed by Norihito Sumitomo for the film Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods. It was first heard in the uncut or extended version of the film which premiered on Saturday 22 March 2014 on Fuji TV[1] and was later released on home video. Afterwards, it was used as the recap music in the Japanese domestic version of the Majin Boo arc of Dragon Ball Kai, beginning in episode 100 which premiered on 13 April 2014. The track was not included on the Dragon Ball Z Kai The Final Chapters original soundtrack release.

S-100 is likely the only unreleased Battle of Gods BGM track that was not composed for the theater version of the film. The other unreleased tracks were likely cut from the film along with the scenes they were composed for and then restored in the uncut version. This is supported by evidence such as the fact that the version of "The Blackness of Space (Awakening of the God of Destruction)" included on the OST release is only used in the uncut version of the film. In contrast, the introductory recap was likely added to the uncut version when it was decided to release this version of the film, and S-100 was likely composed with the knowledge that the piece would also be used as recap music for the Japanese domestic version of Dragon Ball Kai.

Overview

The full version of this track is only heard in the uncut or extended version of Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods. The full track is nearly two minutes long, and can be divided into two distinct segments, connected by a transition:

These two parts are used in contrast to accompany the recaps in the Japanese domestic version of Dragon Ball Kai.

The international version of the arc, called "The Final Chapters", instead features a "Fight It Out!!" recap, based on its opening theme. The Japanese version replaced the "Fight It Out!!" opening with "Kuu-Zen-Zetsu-Go", but the recap music was the only "Fight It Out!!"-themed music to be replaced in the domestic version. The domestic title card music and the eyecatches (Part A and Part B) are still the same "Fight It Out!!"-themed tracks from the international version. The "Never Give Up!!!"-themed preview music from the international version was replaced with "Zuu-Zen-Zetsu-Go"-themed preview music.

Usage and Variations

The full track accompanies the series recap at the beginning of the uncut version of Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, and then its two sections are used in contrast to accompany the recaps for the great majority of the Majin Boo arc in the Japanese domestic version of Dragon Ball Kai.

The heroic Part A serves as the recap music in episodes 100-105. The first 23 seconds of Part A are combined with the track's final tone, held for the last 8 seconds of the track. Part B is then used to increase and maintain the recap tension in episodes 106-157. Part A returns once more in the recap of episode 158, after Majin Boo has been defeated.

S-100 is not used for the recap of Dragon Ball Kai Episode 99, the first episode of the Majin Boo arc, nor is it used for the arc's final episode, Dragon Ball Kai Episode 159. The former uses "Theme of Vegeta" and "Go! Gohan!!" for the recap, while the latter has no recap, substituting a cold open at the 28th Tenka'ichi Budōkai with Sumitomo's "Tenkaichi Budokai" for background music. S-100 is not used at all in the international version of Dragon Ball Kai.
