"Goku and Cell's First Confrontation" is the three hundred and seventy-fourth chapter of the Dragon Ball manga series by Akira Toriyama. It was first published in Japan in the 1992#24 issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump.

Summary

Tenshinhan continues launching his Shin Kikōhō down on Cell, while No. 18 helps No. 16 to his feet and they fly off. Goku keeps yelling for Tenshinhan to stop, who uses one final Shin Kikōhō before he finally drops to the ground. Goku feels this, and Cell starts to emerge from the pit. Cell gets pissed that No. 18 got away, and then decides to finish off Tenshinhan. Goku suddenly teleports to the battle, and Cell is shocked to see him. Goku tells Cell to wait one day and he will be able to fight against him, and then he will defeat Cell. Cell laughs and asks if he really said that, and Goku says yeah. Cell asks what will happen within the next day, but Goku ignores him and begins looking around. He says Piccolo is still alive. Goku grabs Tenshinhan's hand, and warps over to the edge of the island, where Piccolo has washed ashore. Cell wonders how he moved in an instant like that.

Goku picks Piccolo up over his shoulders, and says they will go to God's Temple and get some senzu from Karin. Cell says he will not let them get away, but Goku teleports away with Piccolo and Tenshinhan before Cell gets to them. Cell wonders about that strange technique of Son Goku's, but decides Son Goku does not matter right now, No. 18 does. She could not have gotten far with the busted up No. 16, and Cell flies off. Meanwhile, Kuririn reaches Bulma's plane, and explains that he thought it would be faster to fly to meet her. She hands him the controller, and says it will not work unless he is within ten meters. Then she offers to give him some battle wear like Vegeta has, but he says Goku and everyone need that more than he does. He tells her that they are up at God's Temple, and Bulma says she will take it to them there. Speaking of God's Temple, Goku has returned there, and Tenshinhan and Piccolo have been healed. Mister Popo then yells out that Vegeta and Trunks are coming out of the Room of Spirit and Time.

Trunks apologizes for the delay, saying his father had already overcome the limits of Super Saiyan in two months, but he wanted to use up all the time. Vegeta says that's enough talking, and Goku supposes it went well. Vegeta says there's no need for him to go train now, since he can now take care of Cell and the Artificial Humans. Goku says he saw Cell, and he's an incredible monster now that he's absorbed No. 17 and evolved. Then Bulma arrives, and she's surprised to see Trunks with his hair so different, and he's grown. He explains about having trained in a strange room for a year. Then she wonders why Vegeta's hair hasn't grown. Vegeta says that a pure Saiyan's hair stays the same from birth. Goku realizes his hair is the same way.

But Vegeta refuses and flies off. Trunks says he'll go too, but first Goku gives him two senzu to take. Bulma tells him not to die, and then Trunks flies off too. Goku tells Gohan now it's their turn to train.

I bet you think I won't since if you're destroyed too, I can't reach my perfect form. Too bad for you!!!! I really wanted to reach my perfect form, but as it is now, there isn't anyone in this world who is a match for me!!!!" No. 18, hiding on an island with No. 16, is pissed at Cell. No. 16 tells her not to move, Cell badly wants to reach his perfect form and won't destroy her. Meanwhile, Vegeta is on his way.
