Beerus's planet is the home of Beerus, the God of Destruction of Universe 7, and his guide angel, Whis. The planet first appears in the theatrical film Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, which premiered 30 March 2013 in Japan. The planet makes subsequent appearances in the Dragon Ball Super series and various video games.

Overview

Name

Beerus's planet is called "Planet Beerus" in the original Saikyō Jump serialization of the first Super Dragon Ball Heroes: Universe Mission!! chapter[1]

Beerus's planet is never given a proper name in the main continuity; it is always called Birusu no hoshi (ビルスの星), literally "Beerus's planet". However, in the original Saikyō Jump serialization of Super Dragon Ball Heroes: Universe Mission!! Chapter 1, it is called Birusu-sei (ビルス星), or "Planet Beerus", in the splash text on the chapter's first non-colored page.[1] By standard practice, the splash text was removed in the first collected volume.[2]

Production

Akira Toriyama's design for Beerus's planet.[3]
Example of lizard/snake iconography on Beerus's planet from Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods.

Akira Toriyama's original design for Beerus's planet did not include the great tree-castle;[3] it was redesigned by Toei Animation for Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods. In the film, some of the background and building designs feature a snake or lizard aesthetic. Prior to Toriyama revising a significant amount of the film's script and character designs, Beerus was slated to be a lizard[4] that had originally infected the Saiyans with evil.[5]

The original design for Beerus's planet was repurposed by Toyotarō for Arak's planet, first seen in Dragon Ball Super Chapter 28.
