"SOS: Earth!" is the third individual tankōbon volume of the Japanese manga series Dr. Slump. This volume comprises chapters 22 and 27-38 as originally serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump, 1980 #26 and 1980 #31 to 1980 #42. The volume was first available in print on 10 December 1980. The entire volume is printed in greyscale.
Chapter 22 was moved to this volume to avoid splitting up the two-part story "The Great Strawberry-Panties Caper" at the end of Volume 2. This chapter order is maintained in all subsequent collected volumes, namely the Big Volumes and the Kanzenban.
Introduction
The volume's introduction from author Akira Toriyama is printed on the front flap of the dust cover and accompanied by a small color illustration.
Once upon a time... although it was actually not that long ago... a humble villager sent his silly drawings to a metropolis called Tokyo. It was the nonsensical tale of a scientist, which started with the story of a mechanical doll child. That night, the telephone box rang with a ring-a-ding. In the dialect of Tokyo, a voice intoned, "You know, this girl's cute. You should make her the protagonist." With those few words, it became the story of a mechanical child. And they all lived happily ever after.
— Akira Toriyama
Viz includes their own English translation of Toriyama's words on the first page of their print and digital editions with the illustration printed in greyscale.
