"Goku vs Granolla" is the seventy-third chapter of the Dragon Ball Super manga series written and illustrated by Toyotarō, with supervision and guidance from original Dragon Ball author Akira Toriyama. It was published in Japan in the August 2021 issue of Shueisha's V-Jump, with a sale date of 21 June 2021.
Summary
Goku and Granolla face off, chasing each other through a wooded area. After a time, Granolla observes that Goku's blood flow and cell movements have changed; he must be using that evasion technique that he used when he had red hair. Granolla informs Goku that he is already familiar with that technique, but Goku warns him that Super Saiyan Blue combined with the Ultra Instinct technique will be more difficult to counter. The fight resumes until Granolla finally manages to hit a vital point and knock Goku back to his normal form. (Oil is blown away by the force of Goku's last attack.)
In the ruined city, Vegeta notices the commotion. Back on the battlefield, Granolla tells Goku that stronger attacks and faster evasion will not prevent his right eye from finding Goku's vitals. No one has zero openings. Goku insists that Ultra Instinct has no weaknesses; the only thing lacking is his training. He is not yet accustomed to using Ultra Instinct as a Super Saiyan, so he still has vulnerabilities. Granolla informs him that he and the Saiyan race will be dying here, so he will have no time to master it.
Granolla attacks Goku with a blast, propelling him into the sky on a mushroom cloud, and the Sugarians begin to talk about evacuating their city. To avoid Granolla's attack, Goku teleports to Vegeta, telling him that that technique reminds him of Moro. Vegeta teases him for struggling, and Goku admits he might have to go all out. He asks what Vegeta is doing way out here, and Vegeta tells him that he has figured out Granola's story: there was a tribe in this area with right eyes specialized for sniping, and the Saiyans wiped them out under the command of Freeza. These are probably the ruins of that invasion, and Granolla a survivor. Vegeta realizes that Oil and Maki have played them for fools, and Oil overhears this on his device, but Oil thinks it is too late for the Saiyans to turn back now.
Goku asks Vegeta what they should do; should they try to convince Granolla that they are not his enemy? Vegeta thinks it probably will not matter; Granolla is on a mission to exterminate the Saiyans. Goku decides to beat him first and then try to convince him, and Vegeta asks whether he really can, but Goku is hopeful because he still has not used Ultra Instinct at full power. He returns to the battlefield in the silver-haired form, and Granolla is shocked to realize he cannot perceive any vital points. Goku tells him that this is perfected Ultra Instinct. He cannot maintain it for long so he will have to end this quickly.
Goku attacks, targeting Granolla's visor and knocking it off, then knocking Granolla up and back to the ground. He asks Granolla to hear him out; he does not think they should be fighting. Granolla tells him to be quiet; he is going to have his revenge on the Saiyans. He attacks, but Goku still has the upper hand, and he lets Granolla know that he will be disappointed if Granolla forces him to settle this for real. Goku appears to use telekinesis to immobilize Granolla and toss him away, following him with distance-punches until he crashes into a rock.
At first, Vegeta is disappointed that Goku ended the fight so quickly, but then he realizes that Granolla's power has not dropped as much as it should have. Then he senses Granolla's power elsewhere, on a distant mountain, and realizes something is wrong. Goku appears in front of Granolla, who admits that he did not expect the Saiyans to have gotten this strong. Goku admits that Granolla is also stronger than he expected and wonders about the training he did. He tells Granolla that he does not seem like a bad guy and suggests he train so they can spar again later.
Granolla informs Goku that he has misunderstood. All he said was that he had underestimated them; he did not say the fight was over. He just meant that he should not have split his power for this fight. Goku has been fighting one of his clones this whole time. Meanwhile, Vegeta has located the real Granolla, waiting in his spaceship. Then Granolla disappears and reappears in front of Goku, attacking one of his vital points yet again. Goku is knocked through the forest, clearing a wide path towards the mountain. Granolla approaches him and explains that he was trying to save his strength for Freeza, but he did manage to kill some time while Goku's accuracy in that form dwindled until he could find an opening.
Vegeta drops in and tells Granolla he is impressed. Granolla tells him to step aside; he has to end the fight with Goku. Vegeta tells Granolla that Goku will not be getting up for a while and he is Granolla's opponent now. Granolla says he is not particular about which of them dies first. Vegeta informs him that he is the one who will be dying today; if he is so dead-set on exterminating the last of the Saiyans, then Vegeta has no choice but to make it his goal to eradicate the last of the Cerealians.
