Summary

Eighteen days after departing Earth, Goku and Vegeta arrived on Planet Cereal with Maki and Oil. Vegeta thinks the planet seems peaceful, but Maki points to a nearby mountain and informs them that the bad guy is over there. Goku cannot sense anything impressive, but Vegeta reminds him that they can suppress their battle power, so maybe this guy can too. Maki tells them that it would be dangerous to get any closer so they are going to wait here. Goku assures her that they will take care of things, and Maki wishes them luck as they take off.

As soon as Goku and Vegeta are gone, Maki tells Oil to keep an eye on their battle, and he holds up a communicator, promising to give her the play-by-play. He asks if she will wait here, and she tells him that Elec and Gas are about to arrive. As they approach the planet, Elec notes that he has not been to this planet in forty years. Gas says that his memories of this planet are not good, but Elec reassures him; after all, he has changed a lot since then. Gas concedes.

As they fly past some ruins, Goku asks Vegeta if that might be where the villain went on a rampage, but Vegeta points out that the ruins seem to be very old, while the new cities do not seem to have been attacked. As they near the mountain, suddenly they are forced to dodge sniper fire; Goku is alarmed at their accuracy, noting that he can barely dodge them. Vegeta suggests they trace them to the origin, powering up into his Super Saiyan form. Goku stays in his normal form and closes his eyes, trying to concentrate. They find him at the same time and charge, but when they arrive, the sniper is already gone.

Suddenly, Goku and Vegeta are being fired at from above; they dodge and fly up to confront their attacker, but then they are being fired at from the ground. Vegeta asks if they are really being fired at faster than they can keep up with; Goku is in disbelief too, but before he can finish saying so, he is hit and falls to the ground. Vegeta rushes to his side, incredulous that someone could have hit a vital point so precisely from such a distance. He fishes a senzu from his armor, regretting that they have to use one before they have even seen their opponent; he only brought two.

Goku recovers and sits up, apologizing to Vegeta for getting taken out, but Vegeta tells him to hurry and get up; they could be attacked again at any time. He further warns Goku that he should not rely so much on Ultra Instinct if he has not perfected it yet; he needs to use his mind. Goku concedes the point and transforms into a Super Saiyan. They look around, and as soon as Goku spots Granolla, he fires. Granolla dodges and appears behind them. Goku wonders if this is teleportation, but then he realizes it was even faster than that.

Granolla introduces himself by way of telling them that he has no name for this technique; it is just one small aspect of the power that has made him the strongest in the universe. He is Granolla, the last of the Cerealians. Goku asks Vegeta if he has ever heard of these guys, and he says that he has not. Granolla informs them that while they may not know of him, he knows the Saiyans all too well, though he is surprised that there really were survivors. Vegeta asks if he has some kind of grudge against them, but Granolla sees no reason to tell them; their race is going to meet its end here.

Granolla rises into the air and attacks, destroying a large chunk of the mountain. From a distance, Oil is alarmed. Goku asks Vegeta if he managed to see that attack, and Vegeta tells him it was similar to Destruction. Goku wonders if this guy can use their techniques. Granolla is impressed that they managed to escape into the air. Meanwhile, Goku asks Vegeta if they should attack together, and Vegeta says he is in no mood for teamwork; he came here to demonstrate his superiority, after all. However he will allow Goku to fight first. This surprises Goku, but Vegeta suggests he should get payback for the hit before.

Granolla is getting impatient and tells them to get down there and fight, unless they want to be shot down again. Goku descends, and Granolla tells him that Saiyans must truly be foolish, to try to fight him alone. Even Oil is surprised at this turn of events. Meanwhile Vegeta takes a perch in the ruins to watch the fight and think. He is suspicious of Granolla and thinks there might be more to this situation than they understand.

In the crater of Granolla's last attack, he asks Goku where the Saiyans' infamous ape transformation is, and Goku is impressed that he knows so much about them. Granolla tells him it is based on his own terrible experiences. Goku tells him that they do not do this transformation anymore,[a] but he can do this... and he transforms again. Granolla wonders aloud what is up with the golden hair, and now red hair; do Saiyans not all have black hair? Goku explains that they have several transformations and this one is called Super Saiyan God. Granolla thinks this is both bold and incongruous with the nature of the Saiyans.[b]

Goku and Granolla square off while Vegeta and Oil watch. Granolla presses Goku, so Goku tries using Ultra Instinct in combination with the God form. Vegeta surmises that the higher forms must improve its accuracy. Indeed, Goku is able to dodge all of Granolla's attacks, until Granolla aims for a vital point once again. Goku barely escapes being taken out just as he was before, but then Granolla snipes him, hitting yet another vital point. Goku collapses to the ground while Vegeta and Oil watch in astonishment. Vegeta wonders how Granolla is learning Goku's weak points so quickly.

Granolla tells Goku that his reaction time is fast; his body moves on its own before his brain can even process what is coming. But he still cannot hide his vital points, and as he was dodging, Granolla was able to observe his blood flow and muscle movements, telling him precisely where he should strike. Goku is amazed that he can see stuff like that, so Granolla explains that his right eye is the sharpest in the universe.

This information shakes something loose in Vegeta's memories. Where has he heard of a tribe driven to extinction who were known for their highly evolved right eyes? He looks down at the city, and then he seems to remember.

Granolla goes on: he can also tell that Goku is holding back. Granolla warns him that he does not really have that luxury, so Goku confesses that he has a stronger form. Granolla suggests he get on with it; as long as the other Saiyan is alive he can get Freeza's location from him, so nothing is tempting him to wait for Goku to transform before killing him. This startles Goku; what does Granolla want with Freeza? Granolla tells him not to play dumb; he has sacrificed years of his life for this revenge and he has no patience for dissembling. Goku is really confused now; he thought Granolla was the bad guy. Granolla warns him not to disparage the Cerealians.

Granolla powers up, forcing Oil to grab the mountainside to stay in place. Goku is surprised that Granolla has this much power so Granolla reminds him that he is the strongest in the universe and superior to them in every way. Goku warns him that he has been training a lot recently so maybe not. He transforms again, telling Granolla that this one is called Super Saiyan Blue, but Granolla does not care what it is called. The fight resumes, and the Sugarians have begun to notice that something is going on; there is smoke coming from the mountain.

Meanwhile in the ruins of the Cerealian city, Vegeta has found a giant footprint with opposable toes. It all makes sense now, and he thinks he knows who Granolla is...

Notes

  1. Viz has Goku say that they cannot do this transformation anymore, which is true for him and Vegeta, but not what he said.
  2. Goku's response here is something like "So you say..." (言ってくれるぜ) but the Viz translation makes it seem like Goku is agreeing with Granolla.
