Venus is a celestial body in various works by Akira Toriyama, presumably located within the North Galaxy of Universe 7. The planet is first seen and referenced by name in episode 94 of the original Dr. Slump television series, first aired 02 February 1983 on Fuji TV in Japan.
General Overview

Venus is a rocky, barren planet and appears to be the second planet from its star in the outskirts of the North Galaxy, next in from Earth.[3][note 1]
Inhabitants
Venus appears to be uninhabited in the Dr. Slump television series until Earthling astronauts land on the planet.
In Kintoki: Toki of the Golden-Eyed Tribe, Merluza lies about being a "Venusian" (金星人 Kinsei-jin), stating that she does not even turn on the fan until the temperature reaches 1,000 degrees.[2][note 2]
Summary
In chapter 136 of the Dr. Slump manga series, Arale Norimaki, Gatchan, and Tsururin Tsun use the Time Slipper to go back in time. Upon their arrival, they are shocked to find cavemen and various animals running in fear from a giant meteorite approaching the planet. Gatchan stops the meteorite before its impact, and Arale headbutts it, sending it flying into the moon. Later on, astronauts find an impact crater alongside hand and footprints on the moon.[4] This story is adapted in episode 94 of the Dr. Slump television series, with Venus swapped in for the moon.[1]
Name
Venus is named 金星 (Kinsei) in Japanese, taken from its Middle Chinese name of 金星 meaning "metal star".
Notes
- ↑ Based on Venus' location in Dr. Slump and knowledge of the planet by other Earthlings across various works by Akira Toriyama, for the purposes of this article we will consider Venus to indeed be the second planet from the Sun in all of these works.
- ↑ In Japanese, the boy who approaches Merluza states that Venus is 400度, or 400 degrees Celsius; Merluza states she does not turn on the fan until it reaches 1000度, or 1,000 degrees Celsius. These temperatures are adapted as 800 and 1,000 degrees (presumably Fahrenheit) in Viz's English translation. The surface temperature on the real-life Venus reaches 880 degrees Fahrenheit / 471 degrees Celsius.
