Planet Calvo is the third stop on the Grand Tour. It first appears in Dragon Ball GT Episode 7 which debuted on Fuji TV on 20 March 1996 in Japan.

Overview

Goku, Trunks, and Pan are searching for the second of the Ultimate Dragon Balls, which Giru has located on Planet Calvo. As they approach the planet, Giru tells them the Dragon Ball is ahead at 1-0-2-0-0. They land in a grassy field and stretch, then proceed on foot to the location of the Dragon Ball. Eventually they arrive at a rustic village with thatch-roofed huts, but there are no people in sight. Goku complains that he is hungry, and Pan reminds him that he just ate. Giru tells them that the Dragon Ball is north at 2-3-0.

They enter the village and eventually find a group of people gathered around one hut. Pushing through the crowd, Pan and Goku find a woman seated at a table inside the hut with a few men standing around her. Still behind the crowd, Trunks asks a nearby man what is going on. The crowd turns around to look at them (Goku and Pan have rejoined him). The man explains that it is Zunama. Giru points toward the hut, telling everyone that the Dragon Ball is inside. It is tied at the end of the seated woman's hair. The Earth trio excitedly pushes through the crowd, and Goku counts the stars; it is the Six-Star Ball! One of the men standing nearby asks what is wrong with them, bursting into someone's home like this. Trunks explains that they traveled from a faraway planet called Earth to look for this Dragon Ball. The man angrily tells them that they do not have time for this right now, whatever their situation is; Zunama might show up at any minute. Leine, the seated woman, tells Doma, the man, that it will not help to yell at these people.

Zunama terrorizes the villagers with escalating demands.

Goku asks them who or what is this Zunama they keep talking about; Pan and Trunks want to know too. The villagers sit them down with some food, and the Village Headman tells them that Zunama is a terrible monster who can cause earthquakes by wiggling his whiskers. He terrorizes their village and makes selfish demands which continue to escalate. His last demand was the most outrageous. Giru then interrupts them to tell them that danger is approaching. The Earth trio watches through a window as Zunama approaches the hut, asking if they have decided on a bride for him. Trunks realizes that this must have been his latest, most outrageous demand, and the Headman confirms; his daughter Leine has been chosen as the bride. Trunks angrily tells him that this is like human sacrifice, and a very uncivilized thing to do in this day and age.

Zunama, however, is ecstatic, and threatens to wiggle his whiskers and cause an earthquake if they do not get on with it. He wiggles them, and the ground begins shaking. He threatens to next make the volcano erupt and destroy the whole village, but Leine rushes out, telling him to wait. Zunama asks if she is his bride, and what is her name? She tells him, and asks him to please stop the earthquake. Leine cries as Zunama inspects her; Doma calls out for her and tries to rush to her side, but his friends restrain him. Pan tells Trunks that they have to do something. Zunama is very happy with his bride, however, and says he will return for her on the morrow. He does not like her clothes, though, and tells her to wear a pretty bridal dress. He departs, and Leine faints.

Goku watches as the village women tearfully prepare a feast; crouching, he approaches to steal some food, and a woman smacks his hand with a radish. They are making this food for Leine; he cannot snack on it. Pan and Trunks watch over Leine, who is laid up in bed, and Pan promises they will take Zunama down. The villagers are shocked, but Pan tells them that in return, they only need to give them the Dragon Ball. The Headman is skeptical, but Pan tells him that Goku is the strongest person on Planet Earth, while Trunks is second, and she is third. Trunks reminds her about Gohan, Vegeta, and Piccolo, but Pan shushes him, telling him that this situation calls for exaggeration. Pan begs the Headman to give them a chance; they do not want Leine to have to marry Zunama, after all. Leine is grateful for their offer, and Doma declares that he will go with them; he cannot allow Leine to bear the brunt of this misfortune. Pan and Trunks are happy to hear his offer, but Trunks advises him to let them handle it. Meanwhile, Goku approaches with a plate of food, and lets everyone know he is happy for the chance to fight a strong guy, but the woman from the kitchen takes the plate from him, chastising him for ignoring what she told him before. Anyway, Goku wants to do his best for Leine, and the Headman grants them permission to try.

Pan tells Leine that they need something from her right away; a wedding dress! Pan is delighted at the pretty wedding dresses of this planet; Leine tells her that she was supposed to wear it for...she turns around to look at Doma. Pan assures her she will be able to wear it, and Doma thanks her. Goku asks Pan what she intends to do with the dress; it turns out that she wants to put Goku in it! Goku fights her, so she tells him to calm down; he is just going to be a decoy. Someone has to sneak into Zunama's place disguised as Leine, get Zunama drunk, and then snip off his whiskers. Giru tries to warn them that this will be dangerous; Trunks just wants to know where Pan got the giant scissors. Goku thinks this is a good plan, but he does not want to wear the frilly dress. He tries it on anyway, but it is too big for him; as they ponder what to do, Trunks tries to sneak out of the room, but he does not quite make it. Pan puts him in the dress despite his protests. Goku thinks it is funny; he tells Trunks that he looks good in the dress, and Pan says it is just the right size. All they need to do is fix him up with some makeup, give him a wig, and put on the veil! Trunks balks, but Pan reminds him that this is for Leine and the others. Leine and Pan work on Trunks's face while Goku works on the plate of food that had been taken from earlier.

Trunks is ready to take Leine's place.

All dressed up, Trunks waits for Zunama; he is just grateful that his parents are not here to witness this. Leine thanks him for going through this for her, and he nervously insists that it is nothing. Doma enters with the giant scissors sheathed on his back, and tells Leine he is going to be off. She begs him to be careful. Goku's nemesis from the kitchen approaches Pan with a jug of her mother-in-law's strongest sake. Goku asks if it is yummy, and the woman chastises him; children should not ask about such things. He tries to tell her that he is an adult. Pan tells Trunks he has to put on a good act for Zunama, warning him not to allow his identity to be discovered. He promises to try.

Doma warns everyone that Zunama is coming. Indeed, he approaches singing Wagner's bridal chorus. Pan tells everyone to commence the "Operation Get Zunama Drunk and Snip His Whiskers!" He calls out to Leine-chan; Pan tells Trunks to get going, so he runs out, tripping over the dress. Zunama gets impatient, so Trunks rights his clothes and announces himself. Zunama notes that his voice is different than it was yesterday; Pan admonishes him from the bushes, telling him to try to sound more like a woman. Trunks tells Zunama that he started coming down with a cold last night. Zunama tells him to come closer so he can get a closer look at her cute face, and Trunks panics.[1]

Name

Planet Calvo's name (ケルボ Kerubo) is derived from "volcano" (ボルケーノ borukeeno).[2] The planet was never named in the anime; it was first named in supplementary material.[3]
