"Muten Rōshi's Resolve" is the one hundred and forty-fifth chapter of the Dragon Ball manga series by Akira Toriyama. It was first published in Japan in the 1987 #45 issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump.
Summary
Pilaf informs Piccolo that the other party's five Dragon Balls are headed this way, and Piccolo is pleased to hear it. Meanwhile, the Turtle Hermit also notices that the other two balls are headed their way. He insists they cannot win by fighting, so they will steal the other two balls. Once all seven are together, they will call Shenlong and say, "Please erase the Demon King Piccolo from this world."
Goku and Yajirobe continue toward Karin Tower, with Goku complimenting Yajirobe's car and Yajirobe saying he stole it. Yajirobe then gets serious, and tells Goku that he should not fight Piccolo again, as he is too much. Yajirobe says that he heard long ago, Piccolo was a real terror to the world. Goku asks how a guy like that was defeated, but Yajirobe does not know. Then Yajirobe asks Goku what happens when you gather all seven of those Dragon Ball things, so Goku tells him about Shenlong and wishes and stuff.
Piccolo laughs about his wish, as the three good guys land their little plane in a field full of random rock formations. They disembark and put the plane in its capsule, and then the Turtle Hermit punches a hole in the ground. He tells Chiaotzu to put the balls in there and bury them so they will not be found. Then the Turtle Hermit explains the plan: Chiaotzu hides behind that rock formation, while he and Tenshinhan go steal the other two balls. Then they will throw the two balls over to the hiding spot with their five, and call Shenlong. Just say, "Come out, Dragon," and quickly make the wish.
The Turtle Hermit looks at the radar and sees Piccolo is coming, so the three get ready. Pilaf says they are nearing the other balls' location, and Piccolo realizes they are being waited out. Tenshinhan and the Turtle Hermit are hiding under another rock formation, and Tenshinhan spots the airship headed this way, thinking it will be a bit more complicated to steal the balls from up there. Mai informs Piccolo that they are just above the Dragon Balls, and so they all look down over the area. Piccolo says they are hiding, and then he swallows his two Dragon Balls, so that the other party cannot take them from him short of killing him.
Tenshinhan and the Turtle Hermit see this, and realize they will have to fight after all. But the Turtle Hermit says he will fight alone, without Tenshinhan, since he drank an eternal youth potion and will not die. Tenshinhan objects, so the Turtle Hermit sprays him in the face with something, immobilizing Tenshinhan. Then the Turtle Hermit says the eternal youth potion jazz was a lie; he just wants someone around to defeat Piccolo if he and Goku are both dead, and Tenshinhan should train until he is strong enough to do so. The Turtle Hermit yells at Chiaotzu about a change in plans, then steps out into the open and calls out Piccolo. Piccolo hops down from the airship, and the Turtle Hermit points out the spot where the Dragon Balls are buried, saying, "you can have them if you defeat me". Piccolo likes this old man, as a scared Chiaotzu and an immobile Tenshinhan watch on.
