The untitled second quarterly chapter of Dragon Ball SD by Naho Ooishi continues said manga series, based on the original story by Akira Toriyama. The chapter was published 11 April 2011 within the Spring 2011 issue of Saikyō Jump, a manga anthology specializing in tie-ins to other Shueisha properties. This is the second of four quarterly "prototype"-esque SD chapters preceding the long-running reboot of the series, which restarted the following year alongside the magazine's own relaunch as a monthly (later bimonthly) publication. Dragon Ball SD was an anchor series for the launch of the magazine with all pages appearing in full color. The original four quarterly chapters have never been reprinted or collected following their original publication.
This chapter's story is not a direct continuation of the previous chapter, which ended when Son Goku was a boy; rather, it jumps ahead to summarize a portion of adult Son Goku's battle with Freeza.
Synopsis
On Planet Namek, Freeza has nearly collected all of the Dragon Balls. Standing in his way are Son Goku, Son Gohan, Kuririn, and Vegeta. When Vegeta is seemingly killed for claiming that Goku is the Legendary Super Saiyan, Goku undergoes an unexpected transformation to defeat Freeza and save the planet.
Summary
On Planet Namek, a small team including Son Gohan, Kuririn, and Vegeta are protecting the final Dragon Ball from Freeza. The evil overlord demands that they turn over the ball, but they refuse. Suddenly, Son Goku arrives claiming that he is there to kill Freeza. The pair battle and Freeza realizes that Goku is powerful enough to force him to go all out. He transforms into his final form and Goku is outmatched and impressed by his amazing ki. To keep up, Goku uses the Kaiō-ken and is finally able to slightly damage Freeza.
From the sidelines, Vegeta taunts Freeza by claiming that Goku will defeat him because he is the Legendary Super Saiyan. Freeza is nonplussed, and seemingly kills Vegeta with a single ki beam. As Goku begins to bury his fellow Saiyan, his intense rage causes him to transform into a golden-haired Super Saiyan! He takes the battle back to Freeza, throwing him around easily. Freeza threatens to destroy the planet rather than lose to Goku and launches a gigantic ki blast. Goku fires his giant own Kamehameha, destroying both Freeza's planet-destroying attack and the emperor himself. Golden-haired Goku looks on proudly as Gohan, Kuririn, and a not-dead Vegeta celebrate in the background.

Notes

- Within the issue of Saikyō Jump, this chapter appears within a pamphlet covering pages 17 through 32. This pamphlet is bound on the outward-facing spine, forcing the reader to cut it open to read the material inside.
- This chapter very roughly adapts chapters 279 through 320 of the original Dragon Ball manga, from Goku's arrival on Namek to Freeza's ki attack to destroy the planet. It includes major events such as Vegeta's death in chapter 308 and Goku's first time becoming a Super Saiyan in chapter 317.
- Unlike in the original work, Planet Namek is saved as Goku is able to defeat the Death Ball and Freeza without the former striking the planet. It is Vegeta's death, rather than Kuririn's, that inspires Goku's rage and allows him to become a Super Saiyan.
