In conjunction with the 40th Anniversary Special Video, Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol was the first major announcement during the "Genkidamatsuri" event held 25 January 2026 at the Makuhari Messe convention center outside of Tokyo, Japan, as well as live streamed online internationally.[1]
While a key visual showcasing Goku and Vegeta with the Galactic Patrol insignia was showcased, no further confirmations — that of a release timeframe, character designer, episode count, etc. — were revealed.
Following the event, an article was posted on the Dragon Ball Official Site which contained both Japanese- and English-language versions of the first key visual, along with brief information on the project, and specifically a confirmation of it being based on the "Galactic Patrol Prisoner" arc from the Dragon Ball Super manga by Toyotarō (which originally ran in Shueisha's V-Jump magazine from 2018 to 2021), a fact that was not explicitly confirmed during the live event itself:[2][3]

Today, at “Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri,” the Dragon Ball 40th Anniversary event being held at Makuhari Messe, Ms. Masako Nozawa, voice of Son Goku, and Mr. Akio Iyoku, the Executive Producer of the Dragon Ball series, attended the opening stage entitled “Exclusive Announcements GENKIDASTAGE Part 1.” There, a surprise announcement was made about the production starting for Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol. This will be the story following the “Universe Survival Arc” of the anime Dragon Ball Super, which aired between 2015 and 2018. It also appears in the manga Dragon Ball as the “Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc.” The main character, Son Goku, and Vegeta, work together with the members of the Galactic Patrol, the peacekeepers of the galaxy, to begin a SUPER scale battle against a new enemy, “Planet-Eater” Moro!
