M10 is the official catalogue number of a piece of background music (BGM) composed by Shunsuke Kikuchi for the Dragon Ball anime in 1986. The piece debuted in Dragon Ball Episode 3 which was broadcast on 12 March 1986.

Overview

The full composition is part a of the suite entitled "The Great Wilderness", which is track 07 on both the Ongakushū record and disc #2 of the Daizenshuu.

M10, which comes first, is a piece used not so much for "wilderness" as for scenes with the image of the vast ocean; it really gives a grand sense of scale. Also, this piece is used in some striking scenes where Goku, riding on Kinto'un, looks down over the sprawling lands from above.
Dragon Ball & Dragon Ball Z Daizenshuu (2:7a)

M10 is given the title "Panoramic Scenery" on The Suburbs of kenisu's Magicant,[1] the most common source for fan titles of Kikuchi's compositions. The piece was assigned the Kanzenshuu catalogue number of K-38 based on its placement in the series.

Form and Analysis

M10 is in a slow compound quadruple meter at about 60 beats per minute (BPM).

Part Bars Details
A1 4 trumpet melody; antedecent + consequent HC (I-vi, IV-V)
A2 4 antedecent + consequent PAC (I-vi, VI-V-I)
B 4 violin melody; antecedent + consequent HC (IV-I, IV-I-V)
A2' 4 violins/flute join original melody; bassoon countermelody PAC (I-vi, VI-V-I)

HC stands for half-cadence (ending on V) and PAC stands for perfect authentic cadence (ending on V-I, root position chords, tonic in soprano voice, approached step-wise).
