The Dragon Ball Z Season DVDs are Funimation's first digitally remastered release, overall third release of the Dragon Ball Z TV series, and the first "complete" home release spanning the full 291 episodes under the same product line. These "season" sets, both colloquially known as and internally at Funimation referred to as the "Orange Bricks", were released in North America between 06 February 2007 and 19 May 2009.
Though the original Japanese anime is historically divided into arcs, this release marks Funimation's first branding of arbitrary "seasons" for a home video release, the delineations of which do not correspond to their own actual broadcast seasons from either syndication or cable broadcasts.
Previous to this release, episodes 28 through 67 of Dragon Ball Z were not available subtitled in North America (Region 1), having only been available heavily edited on VHS and DVD featuring the "Ocean Studios" cast. Season Two features vocal redubs of a few characters past Episode 67 and through to end of Season Three.
Following speculation based on retailer listings[1][2], the "season" DVD sets were formally announced via a press release from Funimation on 13 November 2006.[3]
