Gurd is a fictional character in the Dragon Ball manga series by Akira Toriyama. Gurd makes his debut in Chapter 272, published in the 1990 #21/22 issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump.

Biography

Early Life

Gurd realized he had psychic powers as a kid; he was a real brat, using his powers to lift up girls' skirts and steal whatever toys he wanted.[2]

Name

Gurd's name (グルド/Gurudo) comes from the English word "yogurt" (ヨーグルト/yōguruto). Toriyama dropped the "yō" sound.

I thought that I'd name all of Ginyu's underlings after dairy products, and Gurd is taken from yogurt.

Ginyu (ギニュー/Ginyū) is from the Japanese word for cow's milk (牛乳/gyūnyū), Butta (バータ/Bāta) from "butter" (バター/batā), Reacoom (リクーム/Rikuumu) from "cream" (クリーム/kuriimu), and Jheese (ジース/Jiisu) from "cheese" (チーズ/chiizu). Freeza's underlings all take their names from items one might find in a refrigerator.
