Kikono is a fictional character in the Dragon Ball universe by Akira Toriyama. Kikono makes his debut in the "Dragon Ball Minus" bonus chapter of Jaco the Galactic Patrolman, published in the 2014 #19 issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump; the character subsequently made their animated debut in the 2018 theatrical film Dragon Ball Super: Broli.

Biography

Kikono has served Freeza's family since the time of King Cold. He is a genius scientist whose inventions include Freeza's spaceship, armor, and scouters.[1] The scouters were originally said to have been invented by the Tsufruians and adapted by a Freeza engineer named "Gichamu",[2] so Kikono is likely a reimagining of that character.

Dragon Ball Minus

In Age 739, Kikono engages with Freeza in his conspiracy to eliminate the Saiyans in light of the "Super Saiyan" and "Super Saiyan God" legends. Kikono believes it to be a bit of a loss considering the Saiyans' fighting prowess, but is complicit in Freeza's plan to kill them all in a month's time, with the additional plan to tell any remaining Saiyans that a meteor collided with the planet.

Dragon Ball Super: Broli

Name

Kikono's name is likely an anagram of kinoko, the Japanese word for "mushroom": きのこ (ki·no·ko)  › キコノ (ki·ko·no)

Production

Kikono was formally acknowledged as the same character from "Dragon Ball Minus" in a 26 August 2018 article on the Dragon Ball Official Site examining the workspace of Dragon Ball Super: Broli animation supervisor Naohiro Shintani:

フリーザ、パラガス、キコノ、ベリブルです。そしてキコノは、『銀河パトロールジャコ』のコミックスに収録された『DRAGON BALL-(マイナス) 放たれた運命の子供』に登場しているんですよね!
