Biography

Early Life

Reacoom in a tutu.[3]

When Reacoom was a child, he studied dance. This is the source of his agility and battle poses.[3]

My refined battle poses and elegant bearing come from studying dance since I was little. Beautiful, isn’t it?!
— Reacoom

Little else is known about Reacoom's life before he joined the Ginyu Special Force.

Namek Arc

After the Namekian Muri destroys Freeza's scouters[4] and Dodoria is defeated by Vegeta,[5] Freeza decides to summon the Ginyu Special Force to Planet Namek.[6]

Reacoom and the others arrive with the scouters five days later, and Freeza orders them to find Vegeta who has turned traitor and stolen the Namekian Dragon Balls. They are to make him suffer without killing him and then bring him to Freeza so that he can extract the location of the Dragon Balls. Ginyu locates Vegeta using his scouter, then Jheese delivers the new scouters to Freeza, and then they take off. Unbeknownst to them, Goku will land on the planet in ten minutes. They quickly intercept Vegeta, Gohan, and Kuririn. Ginyu notices that they are holding Dragon Balls, and Reacoom notices that there are five more behind them.[7]

Vegeta tries saving one of the Dragon Balls by throwing it far away, but Butta is able to get ahead of it and catch it. Kuririn tries to destroy the ball he holds, but Gurd uses his Time Stop technique to rescue it. Ginyu says he will take Vegeta, while the others can play rock-paper-scissors for the others, but Reacoom complains that he took the best part last time too, so Ginyu decides to take the Dragon Balls to Freeza. He tells them that the final winner can take Vegeta and the runner-up can take both of the little aliens. After a few rounds of the game, Reacoom is the winner, so he gets to fight Vegeta, while Gurd is stuck with the others. After Ginyu departs, Reacoom suggests that Gurd clean up the small ones first.[8]

As Gurd fights Gohan and Kuririn, Reacoom is surprised to see him resort to using telekinesis. Reacoom tells Vegeta that he has fun friends. As Gurd moves to kill his opponents, Vegeta interferes and knocks his head off, shocking Reacoom and the others. Reacoom is concerned that their fighting poses will not look as cool with just four of them. They realize they have to play rock-paper-scissors again to decide who will fight them, but Reacoom is content since he still has dibs on Vegeta.[9]

Reacoom says "Hi!"[10]

Reacoom steps up to confront Vegeta, and tells Gohan and Kuririn that if they want to help, he does not mind, but Jheese objects to this. Reacoom does a special pose, and Vegeta powers up. Reacoom and the others are surprised at his battle power; it is 20,000 and still rising. Vegeta attacks, getting in a few good hits and a Final Flash,[a] which only succeeds in destroying most of Reacoom's clothes. Reacoom tells Vegeta that that is enough warm-up for him; he is ready to fight. He announces his Reacoom Kick and then uses it to knock Vegeta flying.[10]

Vegeta comes back to fight more or less evenly with Reacoom, who comments that Vegeta is better than he thought. Then he ups his game, soon sending Vegeta flying into the water. Vegeta uses this opportunity to swim a short distance and come up in a place Reacoom does not expect, delivering a hard blow to his gut, but Reacoom recovers quickly, burying Vegeta head-first in the ground. Reacoom grabs one of his legs and pulls him out, asking if he is okay, and Vegeta takes the opportunity to blast him in the face. Reacoom is caught by surprise, but he is excited to have a real fight on his hands. He asks Vegeta if he has anything better or if he should kill him now. Vegeta does not answer, so Reacoom prepares his finishing blow. Kuririn tells Gohan it is time to join in. Meanwhile, Goku is two minutes from landing on Planet Namek.[11]

Vegeta is barely hanging on when Reacoom announces his Eraser Gun, a powerful mouth blast. As he fires at Vegeta, Gohan and Kuririn charge; Gohan knocks Vegeta out of the way, and Kuririn bashes Reacoom's head with his knee. The Eraser Gun explodes in the distance, warping the planet. Reacoom compliments Kuririn for managing to smash his teeth, though he admits it has made him a little angry. He asks Jheese and Butta if he can take the shrimps too, and Butta tells him only if he buys them dessert later. Reacoom kicks Kuririn aside, incapacitating him. Reacoom attacks Gohan too, and Gohan responds with a blast, but Reacoom blows it back toward Gohan, who jumps to dodge it. Then Reacoom appears behind him, chopping his neck.[12]

Gohan is able to recover from Reacoom's attack, but Reacoom hounds him with blasts and then knocks him down again. Gohan gets back up, ignoring Kuririn's warnings to stay down. He says that he is the son of Son Goku, and Reacoom is surprised that he still has the strength to talk. Gohan says he will not let Reacoom beat him and attacks again. Reacoom tells Gohan he is unlucky that he has to fight him. Reacoom dodges Gohan's punch and then kicks him in the neck, breaking it. Jheese observes that Gohan's energy is almost completely gone, and Butta says that is what happens when your neck is broken. Reacoom thinks that fight was boring, but then he notices something in the distance: a spaceship![13]

Reacoom wonders what kind of spaceship this is, and then Goku arrives on the battlefield. While he gives a senzu to Gohan, Reacoom demands to know who he is, but Goku ignores him. Reacoom is shocked when Gohan sits up, fully healed, and again when the same happens with Kuririn. After giving Vegeta a senzu, Goku tells Gohan and Kuririn that he will take care of those guys by himself. He walks out onto the battlefield to confront Reacoom, who thinks he is a strange guy. He asks Jheese and Butta to read this guy's battle power, and they tell him it is only 5,000. Reacoom is disappointed, but Vegeta realizes that Goku's calm is a sign of danger.[14]

Reacoom thinks Goku is nuts; he is about to be killed, but he is smiling. Goku informs him that he cannot win. Reacoom is incredulous; he prepares his Reacoom Mach Attack and then charges, but Goku disappears before his blow lands. Confused, Reacoom looks around until he sees Goku standing behind Butta and Jheese. Goku advises them to leave before they get hurt, and then returns to the battlefield. Reacoom tells him he cannot win by running away. He prepares his ultimate attack, the Reacoom Ultra Fighting....something. Before he can finish the attack, Goku elbows him in the gut. As Reacoom falls out, Goku apologizes; he was so wide open, Goku just could not help himself.[15]

After Goku defeats Butta, he allows Jheese to escape. Since Reacoom and Butta are not dead, Vegeta decides to kill them, smashing Butta's neck and blasting Reacoom. In the manga, this is where Reacoom's story comes to an end.[16]

Name

Reacoom's name (リクーム Rikuumu) comes from the English word "cream" (クリーム kuriimu); in creating the character's name, Akira Toriyama rearranged the syllables and elongated ク (ku) instead of リ (ri).

It's cream.

The other members of the Ginyu Special Force are named after dairy products as well: Ginyu (ギニュー Ginyū) from the Japanese word for cow's milk (牛乳 gyūnyū), Butta (バータ Bāta) from "butter" (バター batā), Jheese (ジース Jiisu) from "cheese" (チーズ chiizu), and Gurd (グルド Gurudo) from "yogurt" (ヨーグルト yōguruto).

Freeza's underlings all take their names from items one might find in a refrigerator.[18]
