Dragon Ball Z: Densetsu no Chō Senshi-tachi ("Dragon Ball Z: Legendary Super Warriors") is a card game/role-playing game developed by Flight-Plan and published by Banpresto for the Nintendo Game Boy Color released 30 June 2002 in North America, 09 August 2002 in Japan, and 08 November 2002 in Europe.
The game would be the first and only Dragon Ball game developed for the Nintendo Game Boy Color, as well as the first and only handheld title developed by Flight-Plan and published by Banpresto for the series.
Gameplay

Battles in Dragon Ball Z: Legendary Super Warriors are fought using a turn-based card system, each card representing a move. Attacking moves can range from basic punches and kicks to finishing moves like the Kamehameha and Genki-Dama, whereas defensive options include evasion moves and temporarily boosting a character's attributes.
Winning battles earns characters experience points. Every time they level up, one of their attributes can be increased permanently. Cards also get unlocked along the way, allowing players to choose strategically which ones to include in their deck of 20 cards.

Story
The story mode of Dragon Ball Z: Legendary Super Warriors covers the Dragon Ball Z portion of Dragon Ball's story, split up into 30 chapters of one battle each and accompanying cutscenes.
After an introductory cutscene that briefly describes the history of the Dragon Balls and Son Goku, the gameplay section of the story picks up after the battle against Raditz, with Son Gohan's training under Piccolo functioning as a tutorial for the game. The rest of the story follows more or less Gohan's perspective throughout the battles against the Saiyans, Freeza, Cell and Majin Boo, although there are a few fights he is not present for.

Codes & Secrets
Extra Chapters
The story mode contains two extra bonus chapters, featuring Future Trunks going back to his timeline after the battle with Cell. These chapters can be accessed by first unlocking Future Trunks and then beating Chapter 20 with any form of Vegeta.[27] The story will transition into Extra Chapters 1 and 2 before moving on to Chapter 21.
Additional secret: if "Try Again" is selected after losing in Extra Chapter 1, the battle will change from one-versus-two to one-versus-one; No. 18 disappears and only No. 17 remains.[28]
The Rarest Cards

Special Card
Only one thing in the game is permanently missable; the so-called Special Card (スペシャル カード Spesharu Kādo). It is obtainable only by completing the very first story mode playthrough without losing any battles, including the two hidden chapters, and then pressing Start at the "THE-END" screen following the closing credits.[17] This card has no effect in battle, but the image depicts the "Akira" part of Akira Toriyama's autograph.
Father-Son Kamehameha and Crashing Volleyball
These exceptionally powerful attacks, which can only be used in two-versus-two team battles, can be unlocked from the second playthrough onwards by clearing the story mode, including the Extra Chapters, without losing any battles. The type of Deck that was chosen at the start of the game, the one that prioritizes ki blasts (光線 kōsen) or the one that prioritizes physical attacks (打撃 dageki), determines which card gets unlocked first. The other one can be obtained by repeating the unlocking process.[17] Father-Son Kamehameha (おやこかめはめは Oyako Kamehameha) can only be used by child Gohan (any form) with Goku as a teammate, and Crashing Volleyball (げきとつ バレーボール Gekitotsu Barēbōru) can only be used by Gotenks (Super Saiyan 3 specifically) with anyone as a teammate.
Unlocking via Battle Mode
After winning ten Battle Mode battles in a row, rarer cards are more likely to be included in the post-battle rewards. The Special Card will never be among them, however.

Guide Book

An A5-sized guide book for Dragon Ball Z: Densetsu no Chō Senshi-tachi was released under the V-Jump Books (Game Series) on the same date as the Japanese version of the game, 09 August 2002. It contains detailed information about all the game modes and playable characters, and offers gameplay tips and strategies.
Releases
Domestic Release
Dragon Ball Z: Densetsu no Chō Senshi-tachi was released on 09 August 2002 in Japan.
International Release
Dragon Ball Z: Legendary Super Warriors was released on 30 June 2002 in North America, more than a month before its release in Japan. The game was later released in Europe on 08 November 2002.

The English translation in the international releases is mostly faithful and accurate to the Japanese version, aside from a few errors here and there. Kaiō's planet (界王星 Kaiōsei) is mistakenly called Neptune (海王星 also Kaiōsei) at one point and Trunks refers to his father as "Baba" once, likely because "パパ" papa was misread as "ババ" baba.
In the English version of the European release, all instances of the words "die" and "kill" were replaced with "lost" and "beat" respectively, which led to erroneous grammar in several sentences.

Additional Notes

A lot of Nintendo Game Boy Color games cannot be played on the original monochromatic Nintendo Game Boy. When an incompatible Game Boy Color cartridge is inserted into a regular Game Boy and the system is turned on, the screen will display a warning message. These warnings usually consist of plain text, as is the case for the international versions of Legendary Super Warriors, but the Japanese version includes an image of Son Gohan.
