Panput leaves his hotel, pushing through a throng of adoring fans. Meanwhile, at the tournament grounds, Bulma, Oolong, Pu'er, and Turtle are all searching for Lunch, but she is just outside the grounds standing in line for ice cream. Goku is jogging to the arena when Panput's manager pulls up beside him in their car. He tells Goku that the tournament has been moved and that he needs to jump in. Goku agrees, but Lunch watches what is happening from a distance. She was buying the ice cream to share with Goku! She steals a motorcycle from a spectator, handing him ice cream in exchange, and sets off after Goku. In the car, Goku starts to get suspicious. Pamput's manager only needs to keep Goku away long enough to be disqualified, ensuring the win for his client.
A short time later, Bulma and friends are lined up to watch the tournament, but Goku has not come back yet. The Turtle Hermit (disguised as [[Jackie Chung]]) interrogates Kuririn, but he just knows that Goku went out jogging. If Goku does not return quickly, he will lose by default. Lunch finally catches up with Goku, but not to tell him that he has been tricked; she stole the motorcycle just to give Goku his ice cream. Panput's manager orders his men to try to get away, but Lunch chases them on her motorcycle, eventually trapping the manager and his henchmen in a dead end. They get out and fight Lunch, but she defeats all of them easily, although she has to sacrifice Goku's ice cream cone in the process. Panput's manager surrenders and admits that he just wanted Panput to win. Lunch realizes immediately what is going on and shouts to Goku to run back to the tournament grounds quickly. As Goku leaves, Lunch cracks her knuckles and prepares to get even with the disgraced manager.
Back at the tournament, the announcer begins to introduce the contestants. Panput does not come in via the door, but rather makes an imposing show of emerging on the rooftop and jumping down. The announcer declares that Panput has already won two world tournaments this year and is attending this tournament to prove himself as the absolute world champion. The announcer then calls for Son Goku, but he does not emerge as he is still racing-- on top of traffic-- to get back to the arena. Meanwhile, Panput begs for his life, but Lunch had sneezed and had reverted to her less violent form, uncertain what was going on. The announcer is about to announce a win by default-- Panput claims that happens to him all the time. Goku arrives at the last second before disqualification and the match can begin!
The announcer says that it's going to be an exciting match. Panput throws a warning punch at Goku and is impressed that he didn't flinch. Goku says only that it didn't seem like a very strong punch. Panput says that it must be because Goku had not heard of him. He asks the announcer to pause the match briefly for a demonstration. The announcer agrees, but only if Panput keeps it short. The martial artist demonstrates kicks and punches, ending by breaking the back wall to the arena. Goku is unimpressed. The announcer is unhappy that they had just fixed that segment of wall, but the Turtle Hermit is happy since it gives him and Kuririn a better vantage to watch the match. Kururin says that Panput doesn't seem that strong, but the Hermit (disguised as Jackie Chun) just tells him to watch carefully. Finally, the match begins. Panput tells Goku that he can beat him in 30 seconds. He lunches at Goku as soon as the bell sounds, but the boy is able to block his punch and elbow him several times in the ribs. Panput goes down, much to everyone's surprise. Goku wins! On the sidelines, [[Tenshinhan]] is excited to see that Goku is an excellent competitor. The next fight is Tenshinhan vs Jackie Chun.

Summary

Part A

At a restaurant near the tournament grounds, Son Goku eats quickly while his assembled friends (Lunch, Oolong, Bulma, Pu'er, Turtle, Kuririn, and the Turtle Hermit) look on in disgust and amazement. Kuririn reminds Goku that it is not good to eat so much immediately before a match, but Goku just asks the waiter for more. The Turtle Hermit says that Goku's match begins in two hours. Once Goku finishes his food, the team discusses his upcoming match against Panput. Bulma is shocked that no one has heard of his opponent, but the Turtle Hermit chimes in that he is a genius fighter that just appeared on the scene a year ago. He has already won several tournaments. He's also an action movie star and has appeared in several films. Bulma likes him, but Oolong threatens to tell Yamcha on her.

Meanwhile, Panput's agent arrives at a luxury hotel and pushes his way past a crowd of fans towards Panput's room. He tells the fans that they need to be quiet and not interrupt Panput's training, but the fans stampede in the room as soon as he opens the door. A bodyguard pushes the fans out of the room and Panput discards their presents on the bed, claiming that he will be even more famous as soon as he wins the 22nd Tenkai'ichi Budokai. The manager tells him to be careful because Son Goku is no ordinary kid and Panput agrees, remarking that he was the runner-up in the previous tournament. The manager begins filling in Panput on his research into Goku, but the athlete doesn't want it heart it, wanting to talk instead about the location for his victory party. As Panput continues his warm-ups, his manager looks concerned.

Back at the tournament, the Turtle Hermit is chatting with three young ladies who are spectators in the tournament. They explain that they love the sport, but he is too busy oogling their legs and breasts to hear. Seeing Goku and Kuririn, as well as a chance to impress the women, he invites his pupils over to talk with the fans. They are amazed to meet two of the athletes and ignore the Turtle Hermit completely, much to his dismay. He demands that Goku and Kuririn prove their strength, and not coincidentally leave the girls to him. Panput's manager looks on the scene from around the corner.

Taking the girls and his students to the back room of the Tournament Arena, the Turtle Hermit prepares to spar with practice gloves against his students as the fangirls look on. Goku goes first and as the hermit encourages his student to attack with all his strength. Goku lobs a flurry of punches and kicks, all of which are blocked or dodged by his master. The girls cannot even follow the fight due to how quickly the pair are moving. The Turtle Hermit is impressed with Goku's improvement and struggles to keep up with his student. Panput's manager looks on as well and realizes that his client has no chance against the boy who defeated the Red Ribbon Army. When the fangirls compliment the Turtle Hermit on his performance, he loses his concentration and Goku manages to land a punch. The Hermit ends the match and invites Kuririn to spar next. Goku runs off for a pre-match jog and the manager looks on. He cannot afford to have Panput lose the match!
