Planet Yardrat is home to the Yardratians, a race of aliens capable of peculiar techniques such as Teleportation.

General Overview

An overview of the location, such as inhabitants, owner, significance, etc. Its length should be relative to the location's involvement in the series, but brevity and conciseness is still expected.

In Dragon Ball Super, Vegeta travels to Yardrat to add the Yardratians' curious techniques to his arsenal in preparation for a rematch with Moro.

Yardratians

Yardratians as they first appeared in Dragon Ball Z episode 123.

"Yardratian" (ヤードラット星人; yādoratto-seijin) is a term which describes the inhabitants of Yardrat, and does not refer to a specific single race. At least two different species exist on Yardrat:[1] a tall and wrinkly species which appeared in Dragon Ball Z and a small and pudgy species which debuted in Dragon Ball Online. Both versions of Yardratians appear in Dragon Ball Super.

Though they lack strength, Yardratians are capable of utilizing spirit control to perform many strange techniques. Learning Yardratian techniques requires the pupil to balance their body and mind, and includes activities such as stabilizing oneself on a fine point, which Son Goku is said to have done for 150 days. Vegeta trains on Yardrat for a little less than three months.

Yardratian techniques include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Teleportation (瞬間移動; shunkan'idō): One of Goku's signature techniques which he learned after defeating Freeza on Planet Namek. By focusing on someone's ki, the user is able to teleport to their location in an instant. Mastery of teleportation takes a while, but it is possible to pull off the technique in a pinch having only learned its principles. Yardratians are forbidden from teleporting off-world, but it seems as though this rule may be broken during emergency situations.[2]
  • Gigantification (巨大化; kyodaika)A technique in which the user becomes larger. As the Yardratian elder, Pybara appears to be the only Yardratian regularly using this technique.
  • Multiplication (増殖; zōshoku): A technique to make multiple copies of the user.
  • Healing:

Dragon Ball Super

The following are Yardratians who appear by name in the anime and manga of Dragon Ball Super.

Jimizu (ジーミズ)
Debut: Dragon Ball Super Chapter 33 / Dragon Ball Super Episode 96
Japanese VA: Yasuhiro Mamiya

A Yardratian who competes on behalf of Universe 2 in the Tournament of Power. After dueling with Son Gohan, he is knocked out of the ring by Freeza.[3]

Hatsuka (ハツカ)
Debut: Dragon Ball Super Chapter 52

A Yardratian who greets Vegeta and Iriko upon their arrival on Yardrat. He assists Pybara as he trains Vegeta.

Pybara (ピバラ)
Debut: Dragon Ball Super Chapter 52

The Yardratian elder who taught Son Goku how to teleport many years ago. He trains Vegeta, who comes to Yardrat seeking new techniques to defeat Moro.

Video Games

Soba
Debut: Dragon Ball Z: Sagas

A large Yardratian with a battle power of 14,000,000[4] who appears as a boss during the "Goku on Yardrat" story chapter of Dragon Ball Z: Sagas. During his battle, multiple Yaki will attack from the ground to assist Soba.

Yaki[note 1]
Debut: Dragon Ball Z: Sagas

A type of finned Yardratian who appear toward the end of the Soba boss battle. Multiple Yaki can appear at once and attack Son Goku from beneath the ground.

Dragon Ball Online

The Yardratians in Dragon Ball Online do not have specific names and serve the specific roles of transport and banking duties. These Yardratians feature a refreshed design compared to their Dragon Ball Z counterparts, which Toyotarō incorporated into Dragon Ball Super beginning with chapter 52.

Name

Yardrat and some of its inhabitants appear to be named after various kinds of rodents. Yardrat itself a simple combination of the English words "yard" and "rat". Pybara and Hatsuka likely owe their names to capybaras and 二十日鼠 (はつかねずみ; hatsukanezumi), the Japanese terminology for house mice.

It is assumed that Jimizu gets his name from Misuji (ミスジ) to match the naming scheme of beef cuts that his fellow Universe 2 combatants during the Tournament of Power seem to follow. Coincidentally, his name (ジーミズ) can also be interpreted to follow along with the pun style of his Universe 7 counterparts, as his name shares most of the syllables from 地鼠 (じねずみ; jinezumi), the word for a kind of Japanese shrew.

The two Yardratians from North American-exclusive video game Dragon Ball Z: Sagas, Soba and Yaki, source their names from the classic Japanese dish yakisoba.

Production

Original designs for Yardratians from Dragon Ball Chōzenshū 3: Animation Guide Part 2.

When appropriate, a description of the location's production, including who initially designed it, notes about its design or conception, etc.
