"Even Enma-sama is Surprised — A Fight in the Afterlife" is the sixth episode of the Japanese animated television series Dragon Ball Z. The episode first aired in Japan on Fuji TV on 07 June 1989, receiving a ratings share of 16.8%. It was written by Keiji Terui and directed by Mitsuo Hashimoto.
Synopsis
God takes Goku's body to the afterlife to meet with Great King Enma, the judge of the dead. God says that before Goku will be brought back to life with the Dragon Balls, he will train under Kaiō, who stands at the peak of all the gods in the universe. After receiving permission from Enma to meet Kaiō, Goku begins running along the Serpent Road, said to be a million kilometers long. Meanwhile, Piccolo kidnaps the unconscious Gohan, and takes him to a deserted wasteland. After testing Gohan's dormant power, Piccolo tells Gohan to strengthen himself so as to be able to draw that power out.

The opening song "CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA" is performed by Hironobu Kageyama, and the ending song "Come Out, Incredible ZENKAI Power!" is performed by MANNA.
Continuity
- The oni guide tells Goku that the last person to successfully traverse the million-kilometer Serpentine Road was King Enma.
- In the Funimation subtitles by Steve Simmons, the line reads: "As I recall, in the last billion years, Great King Yama has been the only one, yes indeed."
- This is an error that was corrected in Dragon Ball Z Kai Episode 4: " Over these last hundred million years, I believe that Great King Yama is the only one who has."
- In the English dub, the line is: "Just one person: King Yemma. But he made the tremendous journey many, many centuries ago."
- In the Funimation subtitles by Steve Simmons, the line reads: "As I recall, in the last billion years, Great King Yama has been the only one, yes indeed."
