"The Galaxy at the Brink!! The Super Incredible Guy" is the ninth theatrical film of the Japanese animated television series Dragon Ball Z. The movie premiered as part of the 1993 Summer "Toei Anime Fair" on 10 July 1993. It was written by series composer Takao Koyama and directed by Yoshihiro Ueda.
Synopsis
The Money Family is hosting a martial arts tournament, but everything goes terribly wrong when Bojack and his minions show up in the final stages. The Z Warriors are handily defeated, leaving Son Gohan to face off against Bojack all alone. Can Gohan’s newly obtained Super Saiyan 2 transformation save the day?
Summary
Prologue
At an airport, a staircase descends from an advanced-looking aircraft.[note 1] Four strange-looking warriors come out while a female ZTV reporter reveals that they are aliens, the strongest warriors from the four galaxies. They have arrived to participate in the Grand Tenka'ichi Budōkai.
In a tropical city some distance away, the news report is broadcast on a large screen at a press event. Other ZTV reporters ask Gosan Money about the Grand Tournament. Gosan Money and his wife reveal that the tournament is a present to their son, Doll, on his tenth birthday. Doll seems to be a fan of Mister Satan; while his parents speak, Doll plays with action figures of Mister Satan and a dinosaur. He also sports a Mister Satan pin on his hat. The ZTV Producer elaborates that Gosan Money is the richest man in the world and that he will be sponsoring the largest martial arts tournament ever staged. All martial artists are invited to attend and the prize will be 100 million zeni, while runners up will win tours of the hot springs of the world. On the Serpent Road, Bubbles, Gergory, and Kaiō have set up camp. Bubbles adjusts a small satellite disk so that they can get better reception on a tiny portable television set. Gosan Money further announces that the winner will be given the chance to challenge the savior of the world, Mister Satan himself!
A group of reporters watch a door for Mister Satan to emerge, but he instead is seen high above standing on a helicopter! He is decked out in his flashiest championship regalia, including his championship belt. He tosses down a capsule containing nearly two dozen tiles and leaps down from the helicopter to break them all while. While we do not see if he has broken them all, the next scene shows him blowing on his red and aching hand. Son Goku emerges from a building with a collection of fruit to eat. He is surprised, but not unhappy, that Mister Satan has been given credit for defeating Cell at the Cell Games.
Film
Preliminary Battles
A series of preliminary battles are being waged on Battle Island as the announcer reminds the assembled crowds of the rules: there are 200 contestants gathered for a chance to face off against Mister Satan in the finale. To determine who will face him, the contestants will first fight in eight simultaneous "Battle Royales" to enter the semi-finals. Contestants are eliminated for falling from the stage, being knocked out, or giving up. Killing and weapons are strictly forbidden. While this is being explained, Dosukoi, a sumo wrestler, battles in his first match and narrowly avoids being pushed out of bounds, but recovers and tosses a group of opponents off instead. Mister Satan and the Money family watch over the event in their special moving luxury box.
On a set of moving platforms, Kuririn rapidly knocks out a half dozen opponents with a smile while he thinks of what he will do with the prize, a tour of hot springs around the world. He hears Chi-Chi calling to Gohan from the audience and his face drops. How can he win against a Super Saiyan? From off to his right, he hears that Piccolo is competing as well and knocking off martial artists with ease. Even Future Trunks is competing! Kuririn wishes that only Yamcha and Tenshinhan had decided to attend so that he would have stood a chance.
In the stands nearby, Chi-Chi tells Bulma, with an infant Trunks in tow, that Gohan needs to compete to keep up his strength thanks to all of his studying. Bulma tells Chi-Chi that she had hoped to take the hot springs tour prize with her family, especially now that Trunks returned from the future with the news that he was able to defeat Artificial Human No. 17 and No. 18. Bulma also reveals that Vegeta has lost the will to fight since Goku died. In another section of the stands Chiaotzu cheers on Tenshinhan while Oolong roots for Kuririn. While they watch the match, the Turtle Hermit has climbed a pole to get a better look at all of the beautiful women in attendance. The Hermit says that he doesn't need to watch since they already know that Gohan or Trunks will win, so he's going to look for D-cups instead. He approaches a group of young women with a lecherous look on his face; they scream.
On the Serpentine Road, Son Goku and Kaiō watch the tournament on TV at their makeshift home on the road. Goku is sad that he is unable to complete himself, but is excited to see how Gohan and Trunks fare in the tournament.
Back at the tournament, Yamcha relaxes on top of a tall pillar while the fighters battle it out far below. He complains that he had to borrow money to attend in the hope of winning the 100,000,000 zeni.[note 2] Unknown to Yamcha, one of the battle cameras has noticed him and broadcasts his relaxing to the tournament audience. Chi-Chi and Bulma lament that he doesn't even try, but then resume fighting over whether Future Trunks or Gohan is more powerful, while Kid Trunks looks on in confusion. Far below Yamcha, Dosukoi cleans up the rest of his first round competitors. Completely by accident, he knocks over the pillar that Yamcha is laying on, sending him falling into the water and disqualification.
High above, Son Gohan knocks competitor after competitor off his platform. He remarks to himself that his father got stronger while participating in the Tenka'ichi Budōkai and so can he. In the moving luxury box, Mister Satan eats with the Money family. When it is announced that Gohan passed his preliminary, Satan nearly chokes on his food. Trunks is the next contestant to win his round. Mister Satan just sits there with his mouth open. On Kuririn's battle platform, the battle is not over but the whole platform begins to tilt, causing every remaining contestant to fall off. Only Kuririn manages to hold onto the edge long enough to secure the win. In his luxury box, Mister Satan drops his fork. In short order, Piccolo, Tenshinhan, Dosukoi, Udo, and Kung-fun all win their matches. Mister Satan presses his face against the glass of his booth in despair. He turns to leave, but a reporter stops him and asks him impression of the semi-finalists. Satan responds that they could all use more training.
Semi-Finals
The announcer reveals the line-ups for the semi-finals: Dosukoi vs King-fun, Piccolo vs Kuririn, Tenshinhan vs Future Trunks, and Udō vs Son Gohan. Kuririn despairs that he will have to go against Piccolo but Gohan will be in the first match.
On the battle stage, Udō towers over Gohan. He promises not to be easy on the boy, but Gohan just cheerfully agrees and the match begins. Gohan immediately does a foot sweep and knocks Udō out of the ring. He flies so hard that he crashes through a nearby rocky outcropping before crashing into the water. In his viewing booth, Mister Satan is speechless.
The announcer reveals that Trunks vs Tenshinhan will be the next match. Tenshinhan tells Trunks not to go easy on him and they set up, careening around the island in a flurry of movement. They take to the air, must to the astonishment of the audience. Tenshinhan manages to nearly catch Trunks with a kiko-ho, but only succeeds in knocking the rocky outcropping part of the battleground into the ocean. The battle is fierce and the competitors appear nearly evenly matched; Tenshinhan lands a good punch on Trunks's face while they are both flying inches above the water and narrowly avoiding disqualification. The pair gain altitude and Trunks finally transforms into a Super Saiyan! In his luxury box, a reporter asks Mister Satan about Trunks's ability to change hairstyles. He announces that it is a quick-change trick like in a kabuki play. At his home in West City, Vegeta was watching the battle but turns off the TV. Tenshinhan finds himself completely outmatched as Trunks merely tanks through his ki blasts. With a single fast blow to his back, Trunks knocks Tenshinhan into the water and wins the match. Trunks helps Tenshinhan out of the water and they both smile at each other, pleased with the battle. Mister Satan is not pleased that such strong fighters came to his "dinky" tournament and feigns a stomach ache. He leaves the luxury box and tries to sneak off of the island, but the crowds of his fans shouting "Satan! Satan!" make stealth impossible.
The third battle is announced: Kuririn vs Piccolo. Kuririn knows that he is outmatched and fears that Piccolo will use a makakosappo against him. From high above, Son Gohan wishes Piccolo luck, much to Kuririn's chagrin. Piccolo just ignores him. When the buzzer sounds, Kuririn flies at Piccolo full speed and somehow misses, sending himself falling off the battle stage and nearly into the water. He catches himself at the last moment and flies back up. Piccolo remarks that he had hoped to see stronger fighters at the tournament. He grabs Kuririn and tosses him back into the arena before flying off, forfeiting the match. On the Serpentine Road, Goku plays Old Maid] with Bubbles and Gregory while Kaiō watches alone. Goku asks how everyone is doing and Kaiō remarks that Gohan and the others are doing fine. In the background, they year that Douskoi won his match against Kung-fun and the finals can begin.
Somewhere in the bowels of Battle Island, Mister Satan emerges from a manhole. He's finally found the exit! He makes a break for it, but is stopped near the exit by the Producer who tells him that the dispensary is the other direction. Satan begs off that he's actually leaving to find his personal physician, but the producer reveals that it is too late: Battle Island is moving and they are on their way now to Battle Island II].
Interrupted Finals
The four finalists emerge onto a gigantic step-pyramid in a massive stadium with many thousands of onlookers. Trunks, Gohan, and Kuririn are each embarrassed by the "supportive" yells from their friends and family in the audience. The announcer reveals the rules: this will be a timed battle as each of the four finalists will be sent randomly to one of four battle stages where they will face off against an "intergalactic warrior" (in reality, a student from Mister Satan's school). Whichever finalist wins their battle first and takes the elevator back to the main stage first will win the match and earn the right to face Mister Satan at the end of the competition. Kuririn is thrilled by this as it means he would never need to face Gohan directly and could still win the tournament. A timer counts down and all four are rocketed to their custom-built battle stages: Gohan is taken to a world of toys, Kuririn to the inside of a volcano, Trunks to an idyllic and flower-filled scene on the banks of a river, and a desert for Dosukoi.
Kuririn finds his opponent first, a red-haired woman (Zangya). He at first assumes that she will be a pushover and struggles to dismiss that she is cute, but she very quickly shows that she is an experienced fighter and knocks him effortlessly to the ground. Dosukoi is next, effortlessly defeated (and apparently killed) by a green-skilled man with a mohawk (Bido). At this point, the producers and audience realize that the tournament has been infiltrated and begin to panic, fleeing Battle Island. Yamcha and Tenshinhan run the other way, boarding cars to join the battles with their friends.
In his battle stage, not yet realizing that anything is amiss, Trunks pauses to sniff the flowers. A red ki blast nearly hits him and Trunks calls out to Gokua, an alien with green skin and orange hair, and resting in a tree. Trunks claims that they are not supposed to kill each other, but his silent attacker merely comes down to fight direction. At the first, the two appear evenly matched (with Trunks still in his base form), but before long Gokua begins using his sword to press an advantage. Trunks asks who he is and Gokua responds that he is just a "Galactic Warrior". With limited progress against Trunks, Gokua transforms and becomes bulkier and with red hair. The two resume their attack.
In a land of toys, Son Gohan looks on amused.

- While playing cards in the afterlife, Goku's deck includes Pilaf as the king, Mai as the queen, Shuu as the jack, and Fortune-telling Crone as the joker. This is one of a very small number of references to the Pilaf Gang during the Dragon Ball Z era.
- One of the background fighters in the tournament is wearing a Battle Ball mask, first seen in Dragon Ball Z Episode 144.
- The Scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz is seen attending the tournament, just as he did in the Tenka'ichi Budōkai in Dragon Ball Chapter 42.
