Synopsis

The fifth match is the semi-finals fight, Kuririn vs Jackie Chun. Kuririn and Jackie's battle unfolds at ultra-fast speed that the eye can't follow!! The spectators who came to watch the Tenka'ichi Budōkai are extremely excited by the pair's high level battle!! Kuririn puts up a good fight against Jackie, but he rushes to win! Because of this, he is hit by Jackie's karate chops after Jackie goes around behind his back, and is downed!! Sadly, Kuririn is defeated during the semi-finals.

Summary

Part A

The Tenka'ichi Budōkai Ringside Announcer, having noticed that Son Goku and Kuririn wear the same uniforms with the turtle insignia, decides to interview them before the semifinals. Meanwhile, Bulma is more concerned about the fact that Goku's tail has grown back. Pu'er worries what Goku will do at the full moon, and Oolong says their only hope is that the moon does not come out. Kuririn has never seen Goku's tail before, so he asks Goku about it, and Goku explains that it got pulled off once, but now it has grown back.

The announcer congratulates them on reaching the semifinals despite their small stature. He recalls that Kuririn is only thirteen years old, and asks Goku how old he is, presenting the microphone. Goku is too distracted by this strange contraption to answer, so Kuririn explains it is a mic. Goku hears this as "bike",[a] so Kuririn corrects him, explaining that it is a device that will make his voice louder. The announcer thinks Goku is joking for the audience, but Kuririn knows better, asking Goku to stop embarrassing them and just answer the question. Goku counts on his fingers and informs them that he is twelve years old. Kuririn is surprised; he thought that Goku was older than him. Goku explains that he did not know how to count until Muten Rōshi taught them. Before, he thought that fourteen came after eleven, but now he knows that it is twelve. Bulma, recalling when Goku told her he was fourteen, thinks this explains a lot; he was always so small, and his hair hadn't even come in yet. Kuririn reiterates his surprises that Goku's age is lower than his, but Goku reminds him that his height is still lower.
