Episode Summary

Bulma calls Whis to invite him and Beerus over to the party they are holding at noon the next day at Capsule Corporation in celebration of their victory over Universe 6. She tells them to be sure to bring Monaka with them… This request poses a problem for Beerus. If Goku meets Monaka again, he will definitely insist on fighting him, and it will be hard to keep him from finding out that Monaka’s actually weak. Whis suggests they simply reveal the truth, but Beerus thinks that Goku and Vegeta will not be as motivated without Monaka as a goal. Besides, it would look bad if it were revealed that a god like him had lied… it might even harm his reputation with the Omni-King.

The next day at the party, Chiaotzu flies Marron around, while Chi-Chi discusses with the others that Gohan and Videl will not arrive until later. Goku’s out in the field right now too, but he should pop in any time now. At first they consider starting up the bingo tournament, but Vegeta advises them to wait until Beerus arrives; they do not want to do anything to make him angry and have another debacle like at Bulma’s birthday party. Kuririn thinks they should be fine as long as “someone” (i.e. Boo) does not hog all the food for himself, but Bulma assures him they have prepared far too much food for that to be an issue.

A spaceship arrives carrying some popular outer space sweets, but everyone is shocked to see the deliveryman is Monaka, who explains that this is his day job. Chi-Chi is impressed that Monaka is not only super-strong but works a full-time job to boot. Mr. Satan thanks “Kinako” for delivering the sweets, and mentions again his offer to make Monaka into his mascot. He has even prepared a full-body Monaka suit (worn by his manager Pizza, who finds it unbearably hot). Bulma says this discussion can wait until later; for now Monaka should just enjoy the victory party. But it turns out Monaka knows nothing of the party, and had simply come to make this delivery.

Trunks and Goten run in, and during their roughhousing Monaka gets hurt and starts to cry. As everyone looks on in astonishment, Beerus and Whis arrive. Putting two and two together, Bulma asks if Beerus did not invite Monaka because he was afraid of everyone finding out he was weak. Beerus realizes the jig is up… but Goku has not arrived yet! He demands that everyone keep this secret from Goku, but no sooner has he said this when Goku himself teleports in. Before he can ask Monaka to spar, Chi-Chi chews him out for wearing his dirty farming clothes and has him go change.

With Goku away for a little bit, Vegeta explains that Beerus lied in order to motivate him and Goku to train extra hard, which resulted in their victory over Universe 6. Whis notes that if Goku learns the truth, while he probably will not neglect his training, he still will not be quite as motivated. This is a problem because they need Goku to get even stronger for the upcoming tournament. After all, the Gods of Destruction in the other universes are quite violent; if Universe 7 loses the tournament, there is no telling what might happen to Earth!

Goku returns, having changed into his traditional dōgi. Beerus stalls him by telling him to first perform 100 trillion sit-ups. While he is off doing that, they think of a way to prevent Monaka from losing to Goku. Goten and Trunks suggest that Beerus disguise himself as Monaka, using the full-body suit Satan made. Beerus is extremely reluctant to do this, seeing it as beneath his dignity as a God of Destruction, but after all, this entire situation is his fault.

Goku soon returns, claiming to be finished already. When Beerus does not believe him, Goku explains that he simply counted each sit-up as a trillion, and got done in no time! This fails to satisfy Beerus, but Goku grabs Monaka and heads off to spar. Chiaotzu uses his psychic powers to stop Goku for a little while, and Kuririn blinds him with the Taiyō-Ken. Beerus (now inside the Monaka suit) seizes this opportunity to substitute himself in for the real Monaka.

Goku notices that Monaka is now much taller, and he can sense the same ki as Beerus from him. However, Goku simply assumes Monaka can change his height and has godly power. He is even more excited now! Bulma tells them to fight further away so that they will not mess up the party. Beerus is again having doubts on this whole idea, but Bulma goads him by saying without Monaka to motivate Goku he might give a disappointing performance in the next tournament, upsetting the Omni-King. Vegeta warns her not to mess with Beerus like that, but her words seem to do the trick.

The fight begins; Goku remains in his base form, but Beerus has an unexpectedly tough time fighting inside the full-body suit. The gang is nervous that this will annoy Beerus enough for him to destroy the Earth. As the fight goes on, the Monaka suit starts to tear, exposing Beerus’ purple fur underneath. His giant Monaka mask even gets turned around backwards! Piccolo and Vegeta rush up to shield Beerus from Goku’s sight and fix his costume, hastily explaining to Goku that Monaka also has the ability to control others like puppets.

With the costume fixed, the fight recommences. Beerus seems to fight harder and harder, and the gang wonders if he is getting angry. But Whis explains that most likely he is starting to enjoy the fight. After all, he was merely a spectator throughout the tournament, so a fight like this might be a good way for him to let off some steam. As the fight begins to get out of hand, Bulma worries about it destroying not only her house but all of West City. Whis finally steps in and breaks up the fight, saying that the two will destroy the Earth at this rate.

Yamcha congratulates Goku on his amazing fight. It was so intense, Monaka passed out! This causes Goku to look and see the real Monaka. Everyone panics. Beerus assumes all his efforts have been in vain and fumes with anger, while Vegeta braces himself for another one of Beerus’ rampages. Thankfully though, Goku simply assumes that Monaka can split up into multiple versions of himself like Boo. Resolving to train hard and grow even stronger, Goku goes off to eat. Whis compliments Beerus on a job well-done. After this humiliating ordeal, Beerus regrets his lie, then immediately goes off to eat too.
