Bubbles is a fictional character in the Dragon Ball manga series by Akira Toriyama. Bubbles makes his debut in chapter 210, published in the 1989 #10 issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump.
Biography
Name
Bubbles is named after Michael Jackson's chimpanzee of the same name.[1]
Michael Jackson's pet chimpanzee was named Bubbles, so I used it to be silly.
— Akira Toriyama
Bubbles accompanied Jackson on a trip to Japan in 1987, just over a year before the Dragon Ball character was introduced. Jackson shared a suite with Bubbles in Tokyo[2] and then Bubbles accompanied Jackson on a visit to Yasushi Oshima, then mayor of Osaka, where Bubbles reportedly "sipped green tea with dignitaries". Oshima later recounted that they were "surprised to see the chimpanzee, but we understand he is [Michael's] good friend".[3]
