Biography

Gero's early history is unknown. At some point, he had a son[note 1] and was one of the founding members of the Red Ribbon Army. Although Commander Red was the apparent leader of the organization, Gero pulled the strings and was effectively in control. In that role, Gero masterminded the development of the Army's weapons as well as their Artificial Humans.[2] (Artificial Human No. 8, and perhaps other early models, were developed in collaboration with Dr. Frappe.[3]) At some point, Gero was involved with the storming of an enemy base where he collected a strange doll. This doll later inspired the design for No. 19 and No. 20. His son became a high-ranking soldier, but was killed in battle.[note 2][4] In Age 750, the Red Ribbon Army was destroyed by Son Goku. Gero survived and swore revenge on the young man who destroyed the organization that he helped to build.

Notes

  1. When Doctor Gero's son would have been born is unknown, but he must have been old enough to become a "high-ranking soldier" prior to the Army's destruction in Age 750.
  2. Toriyama states that Gero's son was explicitly killed by an enemy bullet and not by Son Goku during his assault on the Red Ribbon Army base.
