| Title | Videl's Crisis? Gohan's Urgent Call-out! | ||
"Videl's Crisis?! Son Gohan's Urgent Call-out!" is the one hundred and first episode of Dragon Ball Z Kai (the international version of the Japanese animated television series Dragon Ball Kai) and the third episode of "The Final Chapters", the international branding for the series' Majin Boo arc. The episode debuted in the United States on Cartoon Network's Toonami on 21 January 2017. The Japanese title card for this episode has never been released; the Japanese episode title has been transcribed from the episode's Japanese audio track.[1]
Synopsis
There is a fire in a skyscraper in downtown Satan City, and Videl is escorted to the scene in a helicopter. She spots a large water tank on the roof of the building and has the idea to use it to put out the fire. A dispatcher informs her over the radio that the valve is disconnected and if opened would drain the tank's water onto the building's roof, though the dispatcher does not believe this will put out the fire. Videl believes it will give them the delay they need, so she jumps down onto the roof and attempts to open the valve. The metal is hot and burns her hands, but she persists; however she is not strong enough to turn it, and the building is falling apart around her. When an explosion causes the tank to fall in her direction, Gohan appears as Great Saiyaman, catching the tank and saving her from being crushed. He tells her to stand aside and then punches a hole in the tank; the water floods through the building, putting out the fire. Great Saiyaman gives the victory sign to the crowd, but Videl seems frustrated. (Z 202)
Mister Satan watches the news where Great Saiyaman is being proclaimed as the new hero of Satan City; Satan himself is unimpressed and believes this Saiyaman is no match for him. (Z 203; in Z, this scene takes place after Gohan and Videl are late for class, but before school lets out.)
Gohan departs for school at 7:15; Goten follows him on Kinto-Un and tells him to be safe. Gohan is impressed that Goten has learned to ride Kinto-Un so well; Goten thinks Gohan looks good, too. When Gohan arrives in Satan City, he crosses paths with Videl's helicopter; he speeds up in an attempt to lose her, but she chases him through the city streets. Eventually he stops in her path and forces her to brake, and in that moment he disappears at super speed and finally loses her. He hides behind a tree where a passing child recognizes him. Suddenly Videl's helicopter appears in front of the tree; Videl wishes him good morning and he returns the greeting, addressing her by name again; Gohan says he is impressed that she managed to find him. She says she found him because of his flashy clothes. She asks him again who he is, and after he performs his Great Saiyaman routine, she tells him to stop messing around; she presses him to reveal his identity and again he worries about the problems it would cause if his identity were to become known; he tells Videl that his identity must always remain a secret, but she says this just makes her less likely to give up trying. In desperation, Gohan takes her helicopter and carries it to the roof of a building, apologizing as he escapes; he almost forgets himself and tells her he will see her at school, but he amends his salutation to a basic farewell. Videl is now more determined than ever to unmask him.
Gohan rushes to school, arriving just before Videl, who was late for class. The teacher is understanding, knowing that Videl is always busy; however Shapner tells Videl that Gohan was also late. He claims he overslept, but Videl is suspicious, thinking that Great Saiyaman did seem to be heading toward the school.
After school, Gohan crosses paths with a police chase; the thugs cause the police car to crash into a building, and they stop their car, remarking that the police in Satan City are pushovers who will be unable to stop their "boss" once he takes over. They are about to depart to report when Gohan, still in his school uniform, confronts them for reckless driving. They are amused to be challenged by a high school kid and warn him to beware of the Red Shark Gang. One of the thugs grabs Gohan by the shirt to intimidate him, but he just smiles. Videl spots him, but he doesn't notice; the thug aimes a punch at him and he dodges, falling back into a fighting stance. At that moment, though, he notices Videl; distracted, he is caught by the thug's next punch. Videl kicks the offending thug, who is dragged away by his friend, and checks on Gohan who is fine; she is surprised because it looked like a hard punch, but Gohan says he doesn't think the thug was very strong. She then apologizes, saying she thought he was Great Saiyaman and that he would be able to defend himself, but clearly she was wrong. She is glad she showed up in time and that he wasn't hurt. Gohan thinks how lucky he was to have avoided outing himself. As the thugs drive away, the one who was not involved in the fight notes that the girl who interfered was Mister Satan's daughter and that the stories about her strength must be true. The other thug agrees that Videl's kick was impressive, but his worst injury is a possible cracked bone in the hand he used to punch Gohan.
In class at Orange Star High School, Erasa is telling Videl a story when Videl gets an alert on her wristwatch; the Red Shark Gang has taken the Satan City Mayor hostage. On the scene, the thug who fought Gohan holds a knife to the mayor's throat and demands that Mister Satan be brought to them or the mayor will be killed. The mayor asks what they want with him; the thug says that the leader of their gang wants to challenge him to a duel. The leader, Rock, emerges from the building behind them, proclaiming that Mister Satan will not get away with his hubris forever; he is going to kill him. The other thug from the encounter with Gohan says that the city will surely fall into their hands then. The leader says they will change the name to Rock City. Rock repeats the demand to the gathered policemen and one of the other thugs fires a rocket at the officers; everyone scatters and a police car is blown up. One officer asks where Mister Satan is; another officer answers that they have been trying to reach him, but he is not at home. In reality, Satan is ignoring their calls while he watches events unfold on a small television in his attic, bemoaning the downsides of fame. He claims he would like to fight this man, but the gang has firearms; he has a duty as a hero to avoid such dangers. On the TV, the thug threatens to kill everyone present if they delay any longer.
Back at the school, Videl excuses herself from class, and the teacher is proud of her and tells her to be careful. Gohan asks to use the restroom; Shapner says "Again?" The teacher notes that Gohan has asked to use the restroom several times and has not returned and refuses to give him permission despite his good grades; Erasa playfully commiserates. At the scene of the crime, Rock sits in an armchair while the mayor has his hands tied behind his back. Videl arrives, and the thugs laugh; she demands that they release the mayor. The thug who fought Gohan informs Rock that she is Mister Satan's daughter; Rock tells her that he has heard she is good, but he has no business with her; he wants to fight her father. Videl says he is not the first to try to make a name for himself by challenging her father, but he will have to get past her first. The Mayor warns Rock that Videl rivals her father; Rock is pleased that defeating the daughter will be as good as defeating Mister Satan himself. He tells Videl that she is cute for being Mister Satan's daughter, but he won't hold back. Videl aims a kick at Rock's head and he blocks her with his arm; she smiles and says he is stronger than the others. Rock threatens to mangle her cute face.
Still in English class, Gohan can sense Rock's ki and he is concerned for Videl's safety. The teacher recites English song lyrics, while Gohan desperately tries to think of a way to escape class; he begins to fidget, and his bouncing leg causes an effect similar to an earthquake. The students panic, and the teacher tells everyone to take shelter under their desk; Gohan takes the opportunity to escape. He runs to the roof of the school, transforms, and flies toward the scene of the crime. Meanwhile, Rock and Videl appear to be evenly matched; Rock is impressed, but then one of his thugs opens fire at her feet, distracting her, and he knocks her into a bush with his arm. Great Saiyaman arrives, chastising Rock for his cowardly actions. A thug points a gun over his shoulder; he reaches back and bends the barrel with two fingers and then introduces himself with his Saiyaman routine, but he is annoyed with Videl finishes the introduction for him; he tells her that's his line. Videl says this is her job and that he should stay out of it; no one called him there. The policemen watch in confusion; Videl tells Gohan to go elsewhere, and Gohan is abashed; Rock gets impatient and tells his thugs to take care of Gohan, too. One thug opens fire at Gohan who dispatches him immediately; the thug who punched him previously tries his luck, and Gohan punches him out, sending him crashing through the building's window, taking another thug with him. Gohan unties the mayor's hands; the mayor thanks him, but then the thug with the rocket launcher appears and fires at them. Gohan stops the rocket with his hand, sending it back toward the thug who fired it, where it explodes.
During this time, Rock has captured Videl with an arm around her neck; Gohan runs to her, but she elbows Rock and gets free on her own, kicking Rock out cold. Gohan is impressed and believes she might be stronger than Mister Satan. The police take the Red Shark Gang away; Gohan bids Videl farewell and tries to fly away, but Videl stops him. Videl thanks him for his help and says she is even more curious about his identity now and promises to find out soon. Gohan wishes her good luck and flies away. After school, Erasa tells Videl that Gohan disappeared during the earthquake and came back just before she did. Videl looks back to where Gohan had been walking, but he is gone, hiding behind a trash can in an alley. Shapner says that Gohan is a master of escape. Gohan realizes that some opponents are more than a match for his super strength. (Z 203)
