Jinkyo is a minor fictional character in the Dragon Ball universe, introduced as one of the many fighters in the Afterlife Tournament that Son Goku encounters or observes in Age 767. Jinkyo was a fighter from an unknown galaxy who died at some point prior to Age 767, and lost the first round match against Paikuhan in the Afterlife Tournament.

Biography

Jinkyo's background is unknown. He likely lived in the South Galaxy[a] and died sometime prior to Age 767. He was a powerful enough martial artist that he was granted his body in the Afterlife. He likely trained with his respective Kaiō and sought to receive training from Dai Kaiō himself. In Age 767, Jinkyo fought in the first round of the Afterlife Tournament against Paikuhan. The battle, as depicted, was brief and Paikuhan was the winner.[1] Unlike many of the other combatants, Jinkyo does not appear after his match as a background or audience character during the tournament.

Jinkyo's name (ジンキョウ Jinkyou) appears to be a reversal and adaptation of the Japanese word for "giant" (巨人 kyojin), but written in katakana. Unlike some of the other Afterlife Tournament characters, if this is the case, his name is not based on a food, but rather is an on-the-nose adaptation of his appearance.

Jinkyo's name can be seen on a tournament bracket/leaderboard of fighters, where he is clearly matched against Paikuhan.[1]

Production

Due to the production schedule inherent in producing a weekly anime series based on a weekly comic, the writers of Dragon Ball Z interjected anime-only material both as a means of extending the runtime and to flesh out the Dragon Ball universe. Jinkyo and the entire Afterlife Tournament arc was written to depict Son Goku's experience in the afterlife prior to the time-skip and the arrival of Boo.

Notable Skills

Jinkyo is a formidable martial artist, probably from the South Galaxy. Nothing is depicted of his fighting technique as Paikuhan makes short work of him.

Performance

Jinkyo is unvoiced in the series.

Notable Appearances

Notes

  1. Jinkyo's home galaxy is unknown, but likely South. He could not have been from West Galaxy because Paikuhan, his opponent, was from there and first round battles were between different galaxies. He did not appear in training with the defeated East Galaxy fighters either. That leaves only North or South, but he also did not appear in any of the group shots with North Kaiō's martial artists.
