"A New Day Will Come... Father! I'll Hang in There" is the one hundred and ninety-third episode of the Japanese animated television series Dragon Ball Z. The episode first aired in Japan on Fuji TV on 14 July 1993, receiving a ratings share of 19.7%. It was written by Takao Koyama and directed by Masahiro Hosoda.
Synopsis
With the second wish, Kuririn has the bomb inside No. 18's body removed. Learning of his kind heart, No. 18 says "see you later", and flies off. Kuririn and the others part with Piccolo and leave the Heavenly Realm behind. Chi-Chi collapses in tears when she hears about Goku from Gohan. Everyone sees Trunks off as he returns to the future, and a month later Gohan is out enjoying a walk with the Ox Demon King. On television, Satan boasts about his power even more.
Summary
Part A
Son Gohan and his friends stand on God's Temple beneath Shenlong as he impatiently asks them for their second wish, but no one seems to have any good ideas. If they do not wish for something soon, Shenlong will disappear and the balls will scatter. Yamcha wants to wish for an expensive necklace for his girlfriend, but he insists that he was just kidding after the group doesn't jump on the idea. Kuririn asks if Artificial Human No. 17 and No. 18 can be returned to their original human forms. No. 18, hiding behind a pillar, reacts in shocked confusion. Shenlong replies that because their power exceeds his own, he cannot make that change. Yamcha asks why he included No. 17 in the wish as well, but Piccolo reminds him that their first wish was to bring back everyone that Cell killed; that would have included No. 17. Kuririn asks if Shenlong can remove the bombs in their bodies instead, and the dragon agrees. From her hiding place, No. 17 feels her body to confirm the change. With the wishes completed, Shenlong disappears and the dragon balls scatter around the world once again.
Future Trunks asks why Kuririn would wish for such a thing. Kuririn responds that he feels bad for the pair. Gohan thinks that it was a kind gesture. Kuririn apologies to Yamcha for stealing the wish, but Yamcha once again insists that the desire for an expensive necklace was just a joke. Tenshinhan asks why Kuririn removed No. 17's bomb as well and Kuririn admits that while he is fond of No. 18, No. 17 would be a better match for her.
No. 18 appears from her hiding place and yells to Kuririn that No. 17 is her twin brother! Yamcha is excited that maybe Kuririn could be with No. 18 after all, but she shoots him down by saying that she isn't grateful for him removing her bomb. Despite her rejection, the music changes as she brushes the hair out of her face. "See you later.", she says as she leaps off of God's Temple once again. Yamcha reassures Kuririn that because she said that, there is hope for them after all.
Tenshinhan says that he is going to leave and he may never see any of the others again. The friends exchange their goodbyes, with Tenshinhan reassuring Future Trunks that he is more than powerful enough now to defeat the Artificial Humans in his future. As the others depart as well, Trunks announces that he will return to his future the following day. Piccolo tells Gohan that he will remain at God's Temple with Dende, but that he is free to come visit. The group depart as an instrumental CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA plays.
On their way to Capsule Corporation, Trunks asks Yamcha where Vegeta is. Yamcha replies that, after Trunks died, Vegeta became enraged and went all out against Cell. Trunks is happy to learn that his father cares about him.
At the Son family home, Chi-Chi collapses in grief when she learns of Son Goku's death. Gohan and the Ox Demon King try to comfort her as best they can. They tell her that it was Goku's choice to stay dead, but that Gohan can still feel him from afar. Chi-Chi stands and wipes the tears from her eyes.
Part B
At Capsule Corporation Headquarters, the next day, many friends gather to bid farewell to Trunks, including the Turtle Hermit, Oolong, Puar, Dr. Brief and his wife (holding baby Trunks), Kuririn, and Gohan. Even Vegeta, who gives Trunks a two-finger salute. Trunks waves goodbye to everyone and takes off in his time machine. Even Goku seems to appear in spirit.
One month later, things seem to have returned to normal. Gohan has departed on a walk with his grandfather, leaving Chi-Chi home alone and upset that he forgot to close the windows. Gohan is relieved that peace has returned to the world. His grandfather says that they should find a present for Chi-Chi and head home; Gohan runs off to a spot where he used to play with his father, much to the Ox Demon King's protests. Gohan takes him to the waterfall and lake where he and his father once played. He successfully hauls up a huge fish! The pair are attacked by a pterodactyl, despite Gohan's protest that he would gladly share his fish. Gohan defeats it easily and it flies off.
At Capsule Corp, Trunks has learned to walk! The boy falls, but appears to refuse help. Bulma remarks that he has his father's pride. Without assistance, Trunks is able to stand up by himself!
