Bruno is a fictional character in the Dragon Ball universe by Akira Toriyama. He appears to be a character in a romantic movie or series circa Age 749. Bulma swooned over him when she was sixteen years old. He was introduced in an episode scripted by Toshiki Inoue.

Biography

Bruno is a fictional character inside the fictional Dragon Ball universe, glimpsed only briefly in Dragon Ball Episode 2. His show appeared to have been on the air in Age 749. In this show, he appears to have been wooing a woman (unnamed in Japanese, "Viola" in the English dub) and kisses her. We do not see what happens next because Son Goku changes the channel.

Name

Bruno appears to be based on the English name. The Funimation subtitles (by Clyde Mandelin) used Poruno instead, possibly as a mis-heard line of dialog or a deliberate stylistic choice. Poruno (ポルノ) is a term for pornography in Japanese, perhaps fitting as he is the male lead of a romantic show or film.

Production

Due to the production schedule inherent in producing a weekly anime series based on a weekly comic, the writers of Dragon Ball interjected anime-only material both as a means of extending the runtime and to flesh out the Dragon Ball universe. Bruno is part of an expanded scene with Goku and Bulma's TV and not part of the original manga.
