Beerus is a fictional character in the Japanese animated television series Dragon Ball Super and its companion manga series written by Toyotarō. Beerus makes his debut in Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, which premiered on on 30 March 2013 in Japan, as the God of Destruction of Universe Seven.
Biography
Beerus is a cat.
Name
Beerus's name was originally adapted from the Japanese transliteration of the German pronunciation of Virus (ビールス/Biirusu). In the original script for Battle of Gods, Yūsuke Watanabe had imagined Beerus as the God of Destruction responsible for infecting the Saiyans with evil.[2][3] When Akira Toriyama revised the script, he thought that the pun was on the German word bier (also ビールス), so he named Beerus's attendant Whis after "whiskey".[4] This accident served to establish the theme of Gods of Destruction and Angels being named after alcoholic beverages.[5]
