"Everyone is Surprised! Goten and Trunks' Super Battle!!" is the one hundred and seventh episode of Dragon Ball Z Kai (the international version of the Japanese animated television series Dragon Ball Kai) and the ninth episode of "The Final Chapters", the international branding for the series' Majin Boo arc. The episode debuted in the United States on Cartoon Network's Toonami on 04 March 2017.

Synopsis

The tournament announcer reminds the audience that there is no preliminary round for the junior division; all thirty-five entrants will compete with the same rules as the main tournament. They will be disqualified if they give up, go out of bounds, or stay down for a count of ten. Bulma and Chi-Chi shout words of encouragement to Trunks and Goten; Oolong is impatient for the tournament to start. At that moment, a large lady sits practically on top of him, causing him to squirt his drink in his face; she is grateful to have finally found a seat. She is Idasa's Mom and she thinks she will be able to see him fight from this vantage point.

Gohan and Videl are still waiting in line for a new punch machine; they can hear the announcements about the beginning of the junior division over the loudspeaker; the first match is between Bart and Peperone. Gohan wishes they would hurry up with the preliminaries; Videl recalls that Goten is competing.

In the arena, two boys try to kick each other and miss, both of them falling down to laughs from the crowd. The next two boys face off; the first punches Cardpi which causes him to cry; in anger he retaliates with a flurry of punches; his opponent is now reluctant to defend himself, and he allows himself to be punched out of the ring, giving Cardpi the victory. Kuririn is bored with these playground fights. The next match is between Koryu, a young sumo wrestler, and Imamu, who is intimidated by his opponent's size. Koryu chants "Dosukoi" as he chases Imamu around the ring; Imamu hides behind the announcer, who becomes frightened when Koryu charges both of them, knocking both of them out of the ring. Flat on his back in the grass, the announcer declares Imamu's ringout and the end of the match. Imamu cries, but then Mister Satan appears, telling him that boys should not cry over minor things; he should hold his head up. Imamu wipes the tears from his eyes, and Mister Satan props him up on a shoulder to cheers from the crowd and praise from the announcer. Satan congratulates himself on his performance, thinking he will have to use it again someday. No. 18 asks what he is doing; Kuririn laughs and says Satan is always coming up with something. Back at the preliminaries, Gohan notes the crowd is getting excited; he again wishes they would hurry up.

Another match ends with a ringout; the winner is Kalashnikov. The ninth match is between Trunks, age eight, and Idasa, age fifteen. Goku is excited to see little Trunks fight for the first time; Kuririn shouts for Trunks to "stick it to him", but then he realizes that it would be bad if Trunks did that, so he shouts for Trunks to go easy on him. As they enter the ring, Idasa taunts Trunks, who tells him to be silent; he is ignoring him. Idasa tells Trunks he is pushing his buttons. A man in the crowd thinks it is not fair that an eight-year-old has to face a fifteen-year-old. Oolong, who now has an ice cream cone, wishes Trunks good luck; Idasa's mom stands up to cheer for Idasa and knocks Oolong's ice cream in his face with her elbow. Oolong yells at her, but she ignores him; she thinks it is a shame that Idasa will not be able to show off against a little kid. Bulma gives her an angry side-eye while she complains about her broken camera. Bulma shouts to Trunks to pound Idasa's goofy face. Idasa's mom accuses Bulma of being crude, and Bulma sticks out her tongue.

The announcer tells them to begin; Idasa assumes a fighting stance and tells Trunks to come at him. Trunks says he talks too much; he does not have to tell him to fight. Trunks knocks Idasa's legs out from under him and kicks him into the air; Idasa falls to the ring knocked out, but Trunks is already walking away. Idasa's mom is in shock; Trunks thinks he might have taken the fight too personally, and that maybe he really is a brat. As Trunks departs the ring, the announcer inspects Idasa's prone form and declares him unconscious and Trunks the winner. The crowd is shocked, but impressed; Idasa's mom is distressed while Bulma and Oolong gloat.

Kuririn thinks that the junior division will be boring until Trunks and Goten fight each other. Goten tells Trunks that he is fighting in the next match after the ongoing one; Trunks complains again that they were not allowed to fight with the adults. (Z 210)

In the ring, another boy has been reduced to tears; his opponent tries to console him but the crying boy punches him, knocking him out. The sixteenth match features Goten, age seven, against Ikose, age fourteen. Ikose is confident but Goten is nervous. Kuririn and Goku are excited to see Goten fight. Idasa's mom shouts encouragement to Ikose, warning him not to let his guard down like his brother Idasa. Chi-Chi shouts to remind Goten to hold back. Idasa's mom cannot believe her other son is also facing one of these "ill-bred" children. Bulma remarks that she was just thinking that another "dim-looking lame-o" had appeared, and it turns out to be the younger brother of the previous one. Idasa's mom says that they cannot count on another miracle this time; she hopes the "little snot" will meet an ugly fate. Goten is overwhelmed by the huge crowd; Ikose makes fun of him for getting stage fright. The announcer recognizes Goten's face; he looks at the rolls and sees his name is Son Goten; he recalls Goku's fight against Jackie Chun and realizes that Goten must be Goku's son; he looks just like Goku did as a child. He announces the beginning of the match; Ikose punches his fists together, and Goten bows. Ikose assumes a fighting stance, and Chi-Chi again shouts for Goten to go easy on him. Ikose's mom shouts for him to "bang-bang him up good".

At the preliminaries, the new punch machine is being calibrated; Videl says it sounds like Goten's first match has begun; Gohan tells her he heard it too, and he is worried that if they do not finish soon, they will not be able to watch. He shouts at the monks working on the machine, telling them to hurry up; a monk apologizes and says the new machine is not working correctly.

Back in the ring, Ikose shadowboxes while Goten watches without expression until Ikose tires himself out. After Ikose catches his breath, he tells Goten that he wishes he was not stuck with an opponent like him. He attacks Goten with his "Killer Punch", which Goten blocks with one finger. He aims a kick, which Goten also blocks, and Goten tells him he should fight for real and attack as hard as he can. Ikose nervously concedes that Goten is not half-bad, while jumping from one foot to another; his mother gets excited, seeing that Ikose is getting serious. Bulma wonders aloud how many seconds he will last; Ikose's mother begs him to clobber Goten for her sake. Ikose tries his best, but Goten dodges every blow effortlessly. Once he realizes that this is all Ikose can offer, he says he has had enough, and he knocks Ikose unconscious with one punch and bows. The crowd cheers, and Goku is excited that Goten beat Ikose; Kuririn is bored, and says the outcome was no surprise. The announcer tries to rouse Ikose, but he cannot, so he announces Goten as the winner. Goten bows to the cheering crowd, while Bulma sticks her tongue out again at Ikose's mom, who loses her cool and tries to attack Bulma. Chi-Chi knocks her out with one punch and then congratulates herself for making things quiet again.

In the line for the preliminaries, Videl hears someone say that the seven-year-old won the match; she excitedly relays the news to Gohan, that Goten beat a fourteen-year-old fighter. Gohan nods and thinks to himself that this is only natural. Videl seems angry that Gohan is not overjoyed by this news, so Gohan feigns excitement and surprise.

Goten's next match is against a large boy who launches a running attack; Goten pushes him out of the ring with one hand and bows. The announcer declares him the winner; Bulma and Chi-Chi celebrate in the stands and Goten blushes. He is shown quickly advancing through three more rounds. Trunks faces an opponent with legs so long that he can walk over Trunks's head; Trunks is bored and knocks him out with one kick. Goku is excited at this victory, but Vegeta watches impassively; Trunks also advances quickly through three more rounds. His final opponent will be Goten.

The announcer declares that it is time for the championship match between Trunks and Goten. Bulma shouts encouragement to Trunks, while Chi-Chi tells Goten to win them a bunch of prize money. Kuririn is excited to finally see a good match, and Goku agrees. Vegeta still watches without expression. The two boys enter the ring, and Trunks tells Goten that he is going to win; Goten is skeptical that he can.

Mister Satan is taking a nap inside the buliding; a monk tries to get his attention, not realizing he is asleep; Satan insists he was not asleep; he was just focusing his mind in preparation for the matches; as champion he has to take them seriously and make sure he is in top form. The monk informs him that the junior championship is about to begin, and that the two finalists are incredibly strong. He asks if Satan would like to watch as it is shaping up to be interesting. Satan agrees to watch, since he will be fighting the winnner.

The announcer begins the championship match by asking whether Trunks or Goten will be the winner; he praises them for their prowess in earlier matches and tells the audience that they are good friends. An audience member roots for the "smaller" one; others scream for a good match. In the line for the preliminaries, Videl says that the championship match is about to begin; Gohan yells at the monks again, saying they are in a hurry. The monk apologizes, saying they have only just fixed the machine. Gohan tries to run to the front of the line, but others ahead of him protest, and a monk forcibly ushers him back to his spot. Videl yells at the monk too, but he says he cannot do anything about the rules. Gohan says they will miss the match.

In the arena, the announcer steps out of the ring and tells them to begin fighting. Trunks and Goten bow to each other and adopt fighting stances. Trunks tells Goten he will not hold back, and Goten says he won't either. Satan watches from behind the privacy screen; he seems surprised that those two are the finalists. The monk tells him their ages; Satan is impressed they are still in. He looks closely at Goten, saying he feels like he has met him before, but not exactly. Trunks and Goten stare each other down, and their mothers and Oolong cheer them on from the stands.

The fight begins with an arm-to-arm test of strength with no clear winner; Trunks begins hand-to-hand combat which quickly takes to the air, shocking the crowd. Kuririn is finally entertained. Gohan and Videl emerge and run up the arena steps to join Goku and the others; Gohan apologizes when they arrive, telling his father that they finally got through the preliminaries. Kuririn says it took them long enough; he thought they were off on a date; Gohan protests that it is not like that; they are just friends. Goku says he is glad they made it in time; things are starting to get good. Videl is overwhelmed by the display in the ring; Goku shouts encouragement to both boys, who appear to be fighting evenly. The crowd is dumbfounded and Videl is increasingly unnerved; Gohan also shouts encouragement to both boys. Eventually Trunks knocks Goten out of the ring, much to Chi-Chi's dismay, but he recovers himself before touching the ground, attacking with renewed vigor. Chi-Chi and Bulma root for their respective sons while Bulma takes out her frustration on Oolong, using his head as a punching bag. Goten catches Trunks in a full nelson, but Trunks breaks out, knocking Goten down toward the ring. They face off again, striking each other in the classic double-punch before resuming normal hand-to-hand, taking to the air again to the astonishment of the crowd. They fall to the ring again, facing off as the crowd watches in absolute silence.

Mister Satan watches bug-eyed and snot-nosed, while Videl cannot believe that this is a fight between seven- and eight-year-old children. Goku remarks that they are pretty good, and Gohan agrees. Kuririn cheers for both of them. The crowd recovers from its collective speechlessness, raising an uproar for the unexpected spectacle. (Z 211)
