Dabra is a fictional character in the Dragon Ball manga series by Akira Toriyama. Dabra makes his debut in chapter 446, published in the 1993 #49 issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump.
Biography
Dabra is the son of Abra, Great Demon King of the Demon Realm.[2] As King, Abra is in possession of the Evil Third Eye that, when worn on the forehead, grants the user great power. Dabra, seeking to take his father's place, has a thief steal the Third Eye from the safe it is kept in. He tells the thief to meet back up with him in the Third Demon World later, but the thief gets killed by a large demon and Dabra loses contact with him. Still, with the Third Eye out of the way, Dabra is able to usurp Abra and become the new Great Demon King.[3]
At some point, Bobbidi uses his magic to take advantage of the evil in Dabra's heart and bring him under his command.[4] They go to Earth, where Bobbidi's late father Bibbidi left the sealed-up Majin Boo.[5] In order to gather enough energy to revive this Boo, Bobbidi takes control of Yamu and Spopovitch, who drain Son Gohan's energy at the Tenka'ichi Budōkai and bring it back to their master.[6]
Hiding among the hills nearby are the East Kaiōshin — Bibbidi's killer — and his assistant Kibito, who followed Yamu and Spopovitch hoping to ambush and defeat Bobbidi. He and Dabra notice their presence, though, along with several others. Three of them have lots of energy that Bobbidi wants to steal, and he wants to kill the Kaiōshin himself, but he tells Dabra to get rid of the rest.[4] Dabra flies straight up to Kibito and kills him with a blast to the face, before spitting at Kuririn and Piccolo to turn them to stone. The Kaiōshin and the others chase after Dabra as he returns to Bobbidi's ship.[7]
The three with great potential easily make their way through the henchmen Bobbidi sends after them,[8] so Dabra steps up.[9] While fighting Son Gohan, he notices Vegeta's impatience and his impure heart, and relays this information to his master.[10] Bobbidi attempts to take control of Vegeta, but he is so prideful that, though the spell affects him, he manages to resist Bobbidi's orders.[11] All he cares about is fighting Kakarrot, so Bobbidi lets them duke it out in a remote area while he and Dabra prepare to fight the Kaiōshin and Son Gohan.[12]
Suddenly, Majin Boo's energy meter starts beeping — he is at full power already.[13] Gohan desperately blasts the sealed ball Boo is in to try and destroy it, but it pops open and the smoke that comes out coalesces into Majin Boo.[14] He does not appear all that formidable and Dabra thinks he looks like an idiot, which Boo does not take kindly to. He suddenly reveals his power, jabbing Dabra in the eyes before kicking him away.[15] When Dabra gets back up and impales Boo with his lance, Boo simply pulls it out and regenerates the hole in his body.[16] He fires a magical beam at Dabra that turns him into a giant cookie, and eats him. Dabra's death turns Kuririn and Piccolo back to normal.[17]
King Enma, the judge of dead souls, figures the King of the Demon Realm would enjoy Hell, so he sends him to Heaven instead.[18] In the anime, Dabra can be seen enjoying Heaven, behaving as though he has had a complete change of heart.[19]
When Gomah learns Dabra is dead, he takes on the title of Great Demon King of the Demon Realm,[2] until he is overthrown and Majin Koo takes his place.[20]
