Kai is a fictional character in the Japanese animated television series Dragon Ball Super and its companion manga series written by Toyotarō. Kai makes his debut in Dragon Ball Super Episode 78, broadcast on 12 February 2017 on Fuji TV, as the Kaiōshin of Universe Eleven.

Kai is a gentle Kaiōshin with a strong sense of justice who values life.[1] He is known for being kind-hearted and taking everything positively.[2]
Name
Kai's name likely comes from the 界 (kai) in "Kaiōshin" meaning "world".[3] Additionally, many Kaiōshin appear to have been named after deities, and Caenus (カイネウス/Kaineusu) of Greek mythology is a possible source for this name, or one of any number of gods whose names begin with "Kai" or "Cae".[4]
Performance
Kai is voiced by Taishi Murata, who also voices Arak, the God of Destruction of Universe Five.
