Tolbee is a minor fictional character in the Dragon Ball universe, introduced as one of the many fighters in the Afterlife Tournament that Son Goku encounters or observes in Age 767. Tolbee defeated Tabica in the second round, but was subsequently defeated by Paikuhan. Tolbee was a fighter from the South Galaxy and died at some point prior to Age 767.
Tolbee first appears in episode 197 of the Dragon Ball Z television series, as scripted by Aya Matsui, which debuted 18 August 1993 on Fuji TV.
Biography
Tolbee's background is unknown. He lived in the South Galaxy and died sometime prior to Age 767. He was a powerful enough martial artist that he was granted his body in the Afterlife. He likely trained with South Kaiō and sought to receive training from Dai Kaiō himself. In Age 767, Tolbee fought in the Afterlife Tournament. His preliminary round battle was not depicted, but he fought briefly against Tabica in the second round and then lost against Paikuhan in the third. During his battle against Paikuhan, he was injured enough that he had to be removed from the stage on a stretcher.[1][2] He recovered enough that he was subsequent seen watching the rest of the tournament from the stands.[3]
Name
Characters introduced in the Afterlife Tournament largely appear to have names based on some sort of east/southeast Asian food dish, or have a name that is an on-the-nose play on their overall appearance. Tolbee's name is likely the latter, being a rearranged word pun based on the Japanese word for "beetle" (ビートル biitoru).
Production
Due to the production schedule inherent in producing a weekly anime series based on a weekly comic, the writers of Dragon Ball Z interjected anime-only material both as a means of extending the runtime and to flesh out the Dragon Ball universe. Tolbee and the entire Afterlife Tournament arc was written to depict Son Goku's experience in the afterlife prior to the time-skip and the arrival of Boo.
Notable Skills
Tolbee is a formidable martial artist from the South Galaxy; however, his fighting prowess is never directly portrayed in the series.

Tolbee is mute in his several appearances in the series.
