Synopsis
With Goku having become a Super Saiyan, a grand and fierce battle continues between him and Paikuhan. Goku is heavily damaged by Paikuhan's special attack, the Thunder Flash, and is in an absolutely desperate pinch!! But taking advantage of the opening when Paikuhan fires the technique, Goku blows him away with a Kamehameha. Goku has somehow won. However, according to the Dai Kaiō's judgment, the two of them are disqualified for violating the rules. But the truth is that the Dai Kaiō didn't want to train Goku, who was too strong for him...
Summary
Part A
Son Goku and Paikuhan stare at each other from across the tournament stage. Goku is now a Super Saiyan, while Paikuhan has shed his heavy clothing and turban. Everyone appears shocked at Goku's transformation and ki; Kaiō laughs and explains that he is "just" a Super Saiyan! Kaiō boasts to his West Galaxy counterpart that he will soon have his planet.
Goku springs a fast kamehameha at Paikuhan, which he dodges easily. Goku fires off ki blast after ki blast as Paikuhan races around the ring. Paikuhan seems to disappear, only to reappear standing high above on one of the circling moons. Goku is shocked by his opponent's increased speed, now that he is fighting seriously. Paikuhan strikes at Goku with his Hyper Tornado attack; Goku is unable to dodge quickly enough and is sucked into the vortex. He screams as he is tossed around. Paikuhan's wind cuts Goku over and over again until his clothes are tattered and his body covered with cuts. The wind tosses the spectators around. Tabica goes flying through the stands! Even Dai Kaiō's throne begins to blow away. Goku summons what's left of his energy and manages to stabilize himself in the tornado before sending it flying into space.
Goku surprises Paikuhan with a Super Kaiō-ken and smacks him into a nearby moon. Goku tries to follow up with another kamehameha, but Paikuhan recovers too quickly and counter-attacks to knock Goku into the tournament stage. Paikuhan charges. Goku tries to push him back with a ki blast, but his opponent tanks through it and nearly kicks Goku out of bounds. Goku dodges and recovers. The two fighters state at each other, exhausted.
East Kaiō is shocked at Goku and Paikuhan's strength, saying that it will take 500 years for her fighters to reach that level. She reminds Dai Kaiō that he offered to train the winner. In all the excitement of the battle, he had forgotten. Paikuhan admits that he did not think Goku would be so strong and that he is enjoying the fight, but it is time to end it. Goku looks shocked as he poses and launches a Thunder Flash at the Saiyan.
Part B
The Thunder Flash, a horizontal pillar of fire, flies across the battle stage and strikes Goku straight on. Goku collapses in a blast crater near the edge of the ring. He struggles to stand while thinking to himself that Paikuhan's attack has no vulnerabilities. Everyone near the ring has been roasted and even Dai Kaiō's cigarette disintegrates. Goku stands, only to realize that Paikuhan is launching Thunder Flash again. Once again he is struck straight on and is barely able to remain in the ring. Paikuhan fires a ki blast to finish Goku, but he dodges at the last minute and the pair fly up above the ring.
The pair battle, flying so high that they are no longer visible from the arena. Only Dai Kaiō appears to be able to track their movements. After a confrontation, both fighters spin out of control, only regaining their composure by bouncing off of the plane's ceiling. First Goku, then Paikuhan, touch and leap off to face each other again. They resume close combat, but neither seems to have the advantage over the other. Goku tries a kamehameha, but Paikuhan easily deflects it. Goku loses his composure and Paikuhan presses his advantage, sending the Super Saiyan rocketing down into the arena floor. Paikuhan uses his Thunder Flash a third time, Goky spots a weakness! He teleports behind his opponent and tags him with a point-blank kamehameha to the back while he's firing. Paikuhan soars out of the ring and crashes against the wall of the stands. Goku wins!
Goku helps up his opponent and tells him that he lost because he used the Thunder Flash three times; the repetition allowed Goku time to observe and counter it. The pair vow to continue training so that they can fight again. On the sidelines, Kaiō celebrates Goku's victory and his acquired planet.
The announcer calls Goku over to formalize the win, but Dai Kaiō interrupts: there was a rule violation and both competitors are disqualified. Both candidates went out of bounds by touching the ceiling. Dai Kaiō promises that he will reconsider his offer of training in 200-300 more years. Secretly, he is relieved: he has been slacking off on his own training and does not believe that he could train either combatant without getting tired.
Over the next seven years, Goku spends his days training. Meanwhile, on Earth, a much older Son Gohan leaves for his first day of school. Chi-Chi packs him a lunch as he prepares to fly off on Kintoun. The narrator reveals that while Gohan has been studying up to this point by himself and with correspondence courses, he is finally starting his first day at a new school in Satan City.

- This is the first appearance of Kintoun (outside of flashbacks) since Dragon Ball Z Episode 46, during the early Namek episodes.
