Beets is a fictional character who makes his debut in the Dragon Ball Super: Broly theatrical film.
Biography
Beets is a non-combatant Saiyan who works at the spaceport attached to King Vegeta's castle.[1] He attempts to prevent Paragus from stealing a spaceship from the spaceport, and ends up being taken along for the ride to Planet Vampa, where Paragus's son Broli has been exiled by King Vegeta. They crash-land on the planet when Paragus ignores his advice, opting instead to set course for the place where Broli should have landed two days previous. They arrive at nighttime and are soon attacked by the giant spider creatures that dwell on Vampa, leading them to take shelter in a cave for the night. When the sun rises, they resume their search, and Beets notices that Vampa has a moon that is just short of being full; he reveals that he has never transformed into a Great Ape, so Paragus warns him not to look at the moon for too long. After another dangerous encounter with the planet's native serpentine monsters, they find Broli hiding in a cave and feasting on some of the spider creatures. Beets uses a scout-scope to read Broli's battle power, which at 920 is higher than his own. Paragus realizes that Broli must have transformed the night before when the moon was full in order to kill these creatures. They return to their ship, but Beets discovers that the ship's main floater has been damaged, rendering their vessel incapable of flight. Since they only have enough food and water for ten days, Paragus shoots Beets in the heart to preserve their rations. When Broli is older, he appears to be wearing Beets's armor.
Name
Beets' name is likely taken from the katakana transliteration of the English word "beets" (ビーツ/biitsu). This name pun follows the theme of Saiyan characters being named after vegetables.
A similar name — Beat (ビート/biito) — had previously been used in Dragon Ball Heroes: Victory Mission and subsequent Heroes-adjacent merchandise. While the name was seemingly another vegetable-based pun, subsequent characters such as Note and Forte appeared to set up a music-based name pun series.
Production

Beets made his formal debut 14 November 2018 at the Nippon Budōkan arena in Tokyo, Japan as part of the Dragon Ball Super: Broly premiere screening.
The character was first seen in the first promotional trailer for the film,[2] while his name was revealed in the December 2018 issue of Shueisha's V-Jump magazine as part of a highlight on the upcoming "Universe Mission 5" update for Super Dragon Ball Heroes, where Beets' UM5-066 card is detailed by name.[3]
Performance
Beets is voiced by Takuya Kirimoto, who previously voiced Senbei Norimaki's award-winning Reality Machine in Dragon Ball Super Episode 69.
