Summary

Piccolo, Gohan, and Goten can hardly believe it: Goku is dead! Again! Hit's blow to his heart has done the trick, and Piccolo's CPR proves ineffective. But then Piccolo notices something in the sky. It's the ki blast Goku fired straight up into the air as he died. It falls back to Earth, landing right on Goku and reviving him.

Goku wonders what Gohan and co. are doing there, and where Hit has gone off to. Of course, since Hit had killed him, it's only natural that he'd leave. Though it's selfish of him, Goku won't be satisfied until he settles the score with Hit, and Goten and co. reluctantly agree for him to continue the rematch.

Goku shouts out to Hit that he's still alive. Though Hit responds, nobody can sense his ki. Being an assassin, he's well-versed at keeping his own ki masked. Hit replies that he's already killed Goku, so his job is done. But Goku insists that he came back to life soon enough, so that doesn't count. Besides, he now knows how to counter Hit's technique!

This intrigues Hit, and as Goku takes off for a nearby forest, Hit follows him discreetly. Hit refuses to show himself, and though Goku can sense Hit's ki, he realizes this must just be a decoy, a fake ki signature Hit creates while masking his real one. That's what earlier had enabled Hit to sneak up on Goku from behind.

Goku closes his eyes to concentrate as he searches through the fakes to find Hit's real ki, but before he can manage it, Hit attacks with a strange energy blast that goes straight through a tree (apparently without harming the tree itself). Goku is struck by this blast, but survives. So much for Hit's policy to always kill with the first blow!

Now Goku knows Hit's firing invisible ki blasts…but stopping them is another matter. He invites Hit over to a wider area, a nearby cliff by the sea, and intentionally powers up so that Hit knows exactly where he is. Hit brags that he's never let a target get away yet, and he doesn't intend to start now.

After three tries, Goku gets the hang of countering Hit's blasts, and begins a counterattack, but his punches go straight through Hit, as if he were a ghost. Goku can tell Hit's new trick isn't the afterimage technique either, but something different. Hit's far better than he was at the tournament, and still isn't going all-out. Goku begins trembling, not from excitement, but fear!

Meanwhile at Beerus' planet, Vegeta has caught Whis, but still needs to do it another three times to complete his training. Worn out, he tries to have Whis let him off the hook…in exchange for some steak dipped in some of his grandmother's secret sauce (this is, naturally, a lie).

As Goku continues to struggle against the ghostly Hit, Champa and Vados observe from afar. Vados explains to Champa that Hit uses the time he skips with his Time-Skip technique to create a separate dimension that he moves to in order to avoid Goku's attacks.

But now Goku has managed to scratch Hit. He's figured out that Hit moves somewhere else when defending, which is why he can't be touched, but presumably can't attack from this secure position. However, Hit demonstrates that he indeed can still attack.

Champa says Vados was right to hire Hit to kill Goku; he would have been a real problem in Omni-King's tournament. But Vados explains that she merely hired Hit on behalf of some other party. Seeing Hit freely show off his skills, Vados realizes that he is now simply a martial artist enjoying a fight, rather than an assassin doing a job.

Beerus, Whis, and Vegeta stop by to observe the fight, and reveal that Vados and Champa are there too. With everyone watching, Goku prepares to finish the fight, charging up and firing a big Kamehameha that breaks through even Hit's Time-Skip. The two are left exhausted on the ground.

Vegeta is mad that Goku seems to enjoy fighting Hit more than him. Taking a hint from Whis, Vegeta realizes Goku himself hired Hit so that the two could fight again all-out. Goku asked Whis, who had his sister Vados hire Hit on Goku's behalf; not even Hit himself knew about this.

Hit leaves, saying he can't work with this big an audience; he promises to kill Goku some other time. Champa and Vados take off too, but Gohan and co. arrive with Chi-Chi. She's been worried sick about Goku after Piccolo told her an assassin was after him! Goku asks Vegeta not to spill the beans about who really hired Hit.

With that done with, Beerus and Whis insist that Vegeta give them this steak with his grandmother's secret sauce, as he promised them. Vegeta had forgot all about this promise; he had just made the whole thing up anyway. Meanwhile, Goku looks forward to fighting Hit again someday.

Availability

This episode has been released in numerous countries and languages around the world in both streaming and physical formats. "Simulcast" streaming services (even Funimation) use the Toei Animation subtitles rather than the Funimation subtitles by Steven J. Simmons, while digital purchase platforms use the Simmons subtitles that are provided on the Funimation DVDs and Blu-rays.

Streaming debut dates only apply to the subtitled simulcast. Dubbed episodes were to Funimation's streaming service a few weeks after the dub broadcast, and to AnimeLab around the time of the Madman home video release. Simulcast dates reflect regional time zones. The United Kingdom was originally covered by the now-defunct Daisuki streaming service until Crunchyroll added the UK to their Dragon Ball Super coverage area on 30 May 2017.
