Synopsis

Kuririn and co. recuperate by eating the senzu. With their battle recommencing, the super-powered Gohan reads through Cell's movements, and easily dodges his attacks. Cell goes pale as he is unable to keep up with Gohan's speed. Saying that he will show his true power, he emits a tremendous ki, but Gohan in unperturbed. Gohan furthermore endures Cell's full-power punch, and reciprocates with his own punch! Cell is on his knees after just two punches. Cell is stupefied in amazement, as are Kuririn and the others.

Summary

Part A

Son Gohan and Cell stare at each other across the battlefield, the young boy glowing so brightly that the yellow aura is clearly visible even from Mister Satan and the ZTV reporter's distant vantage point. Future Trunks flies around the battlefield, delivering senzu to the wounded fighters. As Kuririn and Tenshinhan wake up, they are amazed to see what has become of Gohan, but even so Trunks advises them to move away from the battlefield. Trunks flies off to heal Son Goku and Piccolo next.

Gohan finally attacks. Cell exclaims that he is too slow, but it was just an afterimage; Gohan maneuvered above him without being seen. Cell flies up at him and performs the same trick, leaving Gohan to strike at air. Cell launches into a flurry of punches, but Gohan dodges each and every one of them without even breaking composure. Cell gets angrier and kicks, but Gohan blocks it. Gohan now taunts Cell by using the same flurry of punches back at him, but Cell also dodges those easily before taking the offensive. Gohan and Cell appear to be evenly matched, but Gohan hardly seems bothered by the battle at all. Vegeta is amazed that none of Cell's blows are connecting. Watching the battle from below, Piccolo tells Goku that he worked out why Goku had to fight first: it was to let Gohan watch Cell's technique so that he could effectively counter them when the time came. Goku just smiles and does not reply.

Cell lands near the ZTV reporter and he proceeds to bravely give his newscast, not realizing that he dropped his microphone until he's told so by the cameraman. In a city, a crowd watches the "Please Stand By" message on the giant ZTV screen and assume the worst: Mister Satan has lost and they are all doomed.

Far below the battle, Piroshki, Karoni, and Pizza flee the battle. Mister Satan watches from a distant vantage point, worried that Gohan will not be able to last because he is not a "pro fighter" like Satan is. When the battle gets too close to Pizza and the others, Gohan carries them to safety just before a shockwave from Cell's punch could have killed them all. Gohan even found time to carry the ZTV reporter and cameraman to safety. Cell is amazed that he would take the time out of the battle for them. Gohan returns to the ground and stares down Cell once again.

Part B

Goku and Piccolo watch as Cell and Gohan stare each other down. Piccolo says that Gohan was able to anticipate Cell's movements, but Goku says it is more than that: Gohan has surpassed Cell in every way. Vegeta stews, unhappy that a second Saiyan has now surpassed him. Trunks offers his father a senzu and Vegeta accepts it only reluctantly, his pride wounded.

Cell springs into battle again but is unable to land any blows on Gohan. Frustrated, he punches into solid rock. When the dust clears, he searches for Gohan and finds him far above him. But no sooner does he turn around than Gohan is right in front of him. Cell seemed unnerved. With Gohan flying just feet away from him, he surrounds himself in ki and emits a shockwave that takes out the rocky outcropping and engulfs the whole area in an explosion. Gohan remains completely unfazed, not even moving as the ground explodes around him. Gohan and Cell return to the ground and Cell tells Gohan that he will finally show him his true terrifying power. Everyone panics. Has Cell not taken the battle seriously before now? Does he have even more power? Cell screams and surrounds himself in yellow energy as his energy increases. The whole Earth begins to shake: cities, Kame House, even Goku's house deep in the mountains. The people assembled in the city fear that the end of the world has finally come. Cell finishes charging up, finally ready to fight at full power for the first time. Gohan seems nonplussed.

With Cell's new speed, he is finally able to land a punch on Gohan, smacking him across the face. Gohan tanks it, then punches back deep into Cell's abdomen. Cell stumbles back. Green ichor drips from his mouth. Gohan uppercuts and knocks him back and onto all fours. Cell struggles to stand. How can he have taken so much damage with only two punches?
